well im about to finish my first grow and move on to my 2nd. and was just about to go out and buy better pots when the thought occured to me why start my plants in a little pot then transplant them if this just causes stress. wouldnt it make more since once they are germinated if im growin in soild to just plant them straight into the pot they will spend their whole life in? is there any reason other than space issues to plant for doing this? im only growing a couple of plants so there really is no issue with space. thanks again guys for your impput.

i may be wrong , but i belive that this is why u tranplant :

watering technics . the roots usually go deep and spread around in the search of food . so if u plant ur plants in one pot their entire life
they roots should spread around the pot more quickly and form a root bound , thus making ur plant slow its growth and even stop it . (it wont produce more fan leaves and wont grow higher)
but if u start at small pot , and then transfer the plant, then the plant should react to the new space in the soil , and spread its roots , thus make it grow larger.

as for myself im still on my 2nd grow , and i use only one pot for the whole plant's life . u can do some awesome stuff with even a party cup
(look into SICC's current party cup grow) .
what i recommend and what im doing , is having first a few couple of successful grow's and then mess around with the technique , (transplanting ,LST , scrog etc ..). so ill have an indication if it went wrong , if it helped , etc ...

The most common mistake when growing MJ is overwatering

This becomes a bigger problem if the seedling is in a 3 gallon pot, as it can not drink (use) all of the water in the medium. The medium will therefore stay moist much longer, this can bring on all matter of different problems such as mold or root rot. Not to mention a greater possibility of overwatering.

Do not fret there is an easy solution (I use em)

Coir Pots are great, I got em at my local nursery 6 pots fot $5

The one I use is a bit bigger than a red party cup (16oz) and is good for 4 weeks then just set the whole thing into the big pot and cover it with dirt.

Once ya use em you'll never go back :bigjoint:

i pop my seeds in a floating seed starter, once the roots show out the bottom i transfer directly into a 5 gallon bucket, my plants are always healthy and quite big check out my post "flowering my girls" i have had great results so far
