Will this 4 bulb T5 HO fluorescent fixture provide enough light in grow tent?

How far do you need to penetrate? The will put out about the same heat for equal watts.

Lumens mean nothing.
Well, like all men I like to penetrate as deep as possible. Nah, anything that will increase overall performance is what I'm about. Less lumens just isn't logical for me.

Why would you care? Lumens are for the human eye not plants. That is logic. Why care about something that means nothing to a plant?

T5 will penetrate.

Mainly because I've experienced the difference before my very eyes but also because I'm old and set in my ways haha.

hps have a high lumen rating because they put out a lot of yellow and green light which is weighted heavily on the lumen scale. but put out much less red and blue light that plants need. I compare lights by radiant power which does not prefer any portion of the spectrum and T5s convert as much or more of the electrical energy they receive into light energy and produce a better spectrum for plant growth. no one in the commercial green house industry consider HPS light to be stand alone grow lights.all the major garden centers use fluorescent light for indoor plants. stoners are the only ones who think they are good for growing plants so to answer your question. I live in the real world.not the stoner universe.when all we had were T12s hps may have been a better option but a lot has changed since the 70's

That is the truth. T5 are used in horticulture all over the world. Hid is to. Mainly double ended and ceramic metal halide.

Hell I would go cmh before I went hps.

CMH provide the best spectrum but at power levels up to 300 watts T5s are a little more effiecient. HPS is only used as supplemental lighting in green houses to increase the length of daylight when plants get natural sunlight. the red light from HPS stimulates phytochrome which make the plant act the way it would in the middle of summer when days are long.MH and CMH provide the full spectrum of light plants need as do T5s.HIDs are actually seen as older technology and fluorescent as an upgrade in green houses because of their longer life expectancy

I've been flowerin with T5's for years LMAO
And you're wasting your time. You end up airy bud. No ifs ands or buts. PERIOD. You can argue all you want. I've seen both, different rooms. The comparison is not even there. And go ahead, spend the time and money to end up your LB while others end up with TWO. Dumb@$$ ALERT*

You are spreading misinformation and I really f**king hate that...
#1 1000WHPS HID's are the most common grow light for flower in a modern grow house today.
#2 T5 Fluorescents are by far the best lights you can use for VEG. However, they will produce a VERY airy product no matter what you try to do, regardless of light distance.
#3 "Stoners are the only ones who think they are good" um, yea...lets trust this guy. Who is downing stoners on a site called roll it up. Get rid of this guy...
#4 You live a false reality that you know what the hell you're talking about, you don't know jack shit and it shows from your post. Who ever you get your so called information from is feeding you bullsh*t and you're passing it around here.

I'm just about to make my light purchase, and it's between the 8 bulb T5 or a single 600 watt dimmable HPS for my 13 square foot (5'w x 2.6'x 6'6''h) grow tent. Which one should I get, and if your opinion is the HPS, would a 1000 watt HPS be overkill for this size area? I weighing cost of operation against yield. Thanks for your insight!

You're an idiot. I'm not going to argue with you about something I've seen with my own two eyes. Let alone the fact that you said "who cares about yield" moron!!
"Well-Known DUMBASS"

I should note I've read a lot of your posts and you seem intelligent. However when it comes to this, you sound as dumb as box of Mexican schwag with flat black seeds and tree trunks.

Yes, get a 600W HPS for flower.

However, T5's are the BEST when it comes to VEG. They create a very tight internode length.

If possible, get both. IT is well worth the investment. You just simple don't get the tight nodes with any other light as efficient as a T5. However you wont get the bud DENSITY or SIZE without that HPS, idc what anyone says, if they tell you different they are full of shit. This has been tried and tried and tried again and it works.

No, I'm not saying "listen to me, listen to me" I just despise misinformation from people who obviously have not clue what they are talking about.

Nothing I say is to be taken as 100% factual and should be used with caution.

Goes to show how dumb you actually are. Your argument isn't there. Continue to grow your airy bud (I've seen your journals) You can do anything and everything possible to try and stick with that flowering T5 bs. It's like the new fad of hipsters going against the norm, douchenickle.

Thanks Doc. I believe that's great advice. I'm going to get a 600 watt cooled HPS with a charcoal filter connected to one side and an exhaust fan and duct tube on the other. I'll be able to operate the exhaust fan without the HPS fired up. I'll have this raised to the top of the tent, and below that I'll hang the T5, which I'll remove at flowering time. This is my first attempt, so I'm not going to scrog it, I just want to see how they grow this time around. I'm planning to plant in five - 5 gallon felt pots filled with coco fiber potting mix raised up about 3 inches off of a 2' x 4' flood tray with a recirculating drip system.

Stop trying to prove that T5's can keep up with HID in flowering. You think you are the first to try? You're not, and won't be the last. However, the same results as always...I'm done commenting on this thread. I hope you choose wisely Malcolm, Sorry that he had to make this thread about putting down HID. What a fool..

A simple question turned T5 vs HPS war. Leaving the original poster just as confused. 95% of this thread is not helpful.

I can't speak for T5. I've only used it during germination and cloning.

Although my closet is much larger than yours (60x60x80") but I'm using a 1000w HPS and getting good results.

Best of luck!
