Evening everyone...working on my next project and ran into a snag...don't worry I'll figure it out.

Made a new light today with a ceiling fan 4 prong fixture, had 4 outlets already wired, so with splitters it will be 8, Cost of new light at the thrift 3.00, cut up a computer plug, and stripped it back and noticed the light had a screw on top so I added a hanging bracket and then a top piece from a cabinet light so it had a plug on it, I would like most of my wiring to be connected, instead of a bunch of cords all over. Then I added my friend mr ziptie, so I have instant hanger with extra power outlet, great for a fan.

Anyway I have a question about some of the curing I'm doing...why sometimes when I open jars, it smells funny, kinda like a beer scent? it's hard to explain, and I have found it in more than 1 jar.
You did dry them 'bone' dry before putting into jars I hope?

If you did, it's possible it's the strain. IF not. Leave them to dry in a draw.

Well Moe, I wondering if I screwed up? by mixing plants at different curing rates? I ran out of lids so I added some newly dry ones to older jars?

That could be the cloraforme? Sorry spelling sucks from the green plant matter. If you leave the lids off for a while and the good weed smell come back you are ok. Just keep airing out every day till you only smell weed then every other day for about a weeek or so. I have this happen when I harvest to early and jar my meds up.

I hope that beer smell isnt mold Whocares. With a smell like that you might pull your buds out and look em over with a scope...another good way to test for mold is to set up a flashlight in a dark room and crack some buds open...if some shit that looks like smoke puffs out its mold...under scope old looks like fuzzy hairs.

I hope its just the smell of your herb but that yeast smell can mean mold.

I ws going through an old laptop and found some old pics i didnt know i still had....this is from the biggest fastest growing plant ive ever seen. It was sensi seeds super skunk....but i think they fucked up cause this seed didnt grow like the rest at all....the bud was sub par off it but holy crap was it vigorous...the leaves were bigger than my head

Also I never mix batches of herb in curing jars. Its my way of damage control in case some bud has mold on or in it. That way I only lose the jar/s that had that plant in it/them. Personal preference.

Stone and Jela after looking closely at your grows i think im going to ditch half my vegged girls and do 4 on one side and 6 on the other (one hood is an xxxl) and use some tomato trellis to set up a late to the game scrog.

Jela because you pull nice weight off minimal plants and Stone because wow your scrog is a thing of beauty.

Ive been LST since start of veg so they are wider than they are tall so im going to ut up the trellis the day i flip to 12/12 (this weekend) and train em into it during the stretch....

Its so fun to grow just for pleasure and medicine for two people. So much room to play around instead of same old same old cash cropping.

Cheers

There are some awesome grows going on in here...

Sorry to hear about your loss who cares, its really pretty fucked up the way things are for sick and drug addicted people in this country, in Iowa the medical board of directors for the state wants to go medical but the politicians wont support it, its pretty obvious how fucked up our country is when we have medical policy's being dictated by politicians and not doctors, i used to be one of those people who figured people are sick have some compassion and give them what they want to ease their pain, but after looking into medical cannabis i found some pretty crazy things that ingested cannabis extracts can do for the health of our body's, its a shame he was never able to get access to something that could have helped him and again, I'm sorry for your loss...

Moe, RR and roadkill from shroomery made some great videos on the subject, http://www.mushroomvideos.com/ here is also a video that contains a wealth of information http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=er1i3M-w51E i have a syringe full of Koh Samui Super Strain in my fridge but unfortunately all of my closet space is currently being occupied right now lol.

Thanks shiva! Love to scrog, it's actually the only way I've grown so I don't know any better lol.

I have serious heat issues in the summer with my small cab, so I have been pondering some different layouts for my next grow. I am leaning toward a 12/12 from clone sog to help with the light heat and with air movement.

I have a bunch of these that I think I will use. SAM_1008.jpg They are close to the right size to get me 4 plants per sq. foot. I can fit about 9-12 in my grow cab and still have room left over, they won't take up nearly the footprint of the scrog. I expect a dropoff in yield but it will be a fair trade off with cutting down veg time and heat.

Ive got a couple weeks to plan ahead so a couple questions for you soggers, Moe and Shagg, or anyone with experience. Do you cut all the lower nodes and leave like the top 10" or so for flower? Or will packing them close together be enough to limit excess branching. Also how much stretch do you normally get, I know each strain will be different just looking for an approximation. Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately our politicians are nothing more than puppets for big business. Whoever has the most money has the loudest voice in our democracy. And big pharma has no interest in allowing people to grow their own medicine. Our government would much rather that big pharma produce a dangerous synthetic version of cannabis that can be patented and controlled. Pathetic.

Here's something I've never seen before, maybe I just never paid enough attention, but my Maui Thunder seedlings are starting to build side branches @ 12 1/2 days after planting.

No, I don't cut anything. .. The packing in close really does prevent the excess branching, I think its the plants way of regulating space.

Also, please remember that branching is related to the diameter of the container. A 2L has a 4" diameter so the plant somehow knows to not grow too wide. The coffee mate container looks like it will work well ... but I think it'll be branchier than if it was in a narrower container. and because it's not so deep, the plant won't grow as tall.

re: stretch. .. I promise you'll never find a single definitive answer. .. Some really don't stretch much and you can end up with a fat bud the length of your hand. .... others have more stretch and will quadruple in height and will end up as long as your arm.

Removal of the lower growth or lollipopping is mostly based on light penetration and air flow ime. Most of the time I remove very little lower growth unless lower leaves start showing signs of not being useful and the plant is going to drop them anyways. From what I remember reading on it is approx 1/3 removal, that way your top 2/3's turns into a nice budsicle. There has been talk that tightly packed plants will stop plants from kicking side branches but I believe that to be false and lean more to the plants growing style/pheno/strain. With the current strains, I have a few that really kick out branches into the neighboring plants. Good airflow (lollipopping) removes the risk of mold, good airflow can resolve mold, PM, and heat issues. Sometimes an extra fan is all that is needed :)

Now onto the subject of the stretch. I have found that the stretch is based off of a lot of factors, mostly being tempurature, light intensity and which way is the strain leaning indica/sativa. Generally speaking most Sat leaning will have a larger stretch in the 2 - 4+ times stretch, Were an Indica leaning will generally stretch very little, sometimes as low as only 1/2 but usually 1 - 2 times. Peace!!

Thanks for those timely responses guys! I had thought about the larger diameter too Moe, but the plan is to keep them short due to low overhead space, so the short containers sounds like it might help. I plan on transplanting them to hempys, give em 5 days or so then flip. IDK for sure just trying to get some basics down.

Nice Shagg, sounds like leaving some of the side branching is not a bad thing then as long as there is decent light penetration. Really is a judgement call as the grow progresses I'm sure.

My goal is to get 3 strains and run groups of 3 or 4 each for a total of 9 or 12. I want to conduct my watering experiment too, and I'll water one set daily, one set I'll continue with my current pattern, and one set I will let overdry but not to the point of wilting, just a day or 2 longer than I do now.

Thanks again for the advice guys. Peace

It makes me laugh how the advice goes back and forth on RIU. It was only a couple of days I picked up some wise words from you in a post about SCROG. ;-)

Totally agree! This thread especially, so many good, active people here. :-P

Edit: OK one complaint. This thread moves too fast! Damn I didn't even see those Sharksbreath Jela! That is so nice man! Props as always
