WTF ? air temp is 77 res. temp is 90 help

my air temp is fine @ 77 F but my res water temp is 90 F please dont tell me to go buy a chiller im not an idiot im lookin for a cheap/cleaver ideas not simple ones that i have already thought of

That doesn't make much sense, get some pics up of your res, pump, and setup so we can tell you.

i know it doeesnt make sense
the to of my res is black and its only 24" from my 1000 watt mh i have a beasty fan and am able to cool the light/room to 77F
i covered the lid in mylar in hopes to reflect the light/heat away
i have a aeroponic sys inside the tub.

See what results you get from covering it like that. Black will absorb a lot of heat.

It is working, if it drops it any then you should leave it or paint it or get a white lid. Temp problems are usually defeated by multiple changes.

I'd say it's your water pump inside the reservoir that's heating up your water. Reach in there and feel how hot it is. Try turning the pump off for a couple of hours and see what happens to the water temp.

Have you tried a nft1 timer I had to get one for my ez clone the timer runs for 1 minute and is off for 4 minutes it solved my problem for 60 $. good luck.

Sure, the humidity in the res alone will keep the roots moist for a while. But if you're worried you can hand-water them every 15 mins or so. This is just a troubleshooting test, not a permanent solution. You should see the temp start dropping within a half-hour.

If it's the pump, I would go with Corn Fed's solution for starters.

You could get some 20 ounce bottles of water and freeze them, then put them in your res till you get it figured out .

Your plants can easily handle 8 hours with no water.

guaranteed it's the air pump pushing hot air into your res - mine does exactly the same. I spent ages researching this, messed about with frozen water bottles, looked up loads of cheap diy chillers etc. but in the end i just bought an aquarium chiller for 130 quid off ebay. It saves so much hassle and makes life so much easier knowing that the res is always at a constant 68F. Defo worth the money mate. If you're in the states have a look at buying an ice probe, they're a relatively cheap solution =)

hell yea sophanox thanks that seems like an easy way to fix my res temp problem
ill buy one today do you by chance know what temp is best for a res.

Did you check your pump to make sure that is what is causing it?
