Wtf is wrong with these pepper seeds??

So to test my indoor grow box, I've decided to try to grow some peppers, because i friggin love peppers..
so i have 2 23 watt CFLs in there with an exhaust pc fan and it stays relatively around 75-85 degrees... and I'm trying 3 different techniques:
i am germinating 3 seeds in a damp paper towel inside the box, and i have another 3 seeds planted in miracle grow also inside the box under the lights. i water it every day or when ever it looks way too try, and i also had another 3 seeds in a damp paper towel outside of the box to test that way also, and its been like 5 days and I'm not seeing anything... I've opened the bags and none of the seeds are germinating as well as there is nothing popping up from the soil.. does anyone know the problem with this? i would really like to grow some stuff indoors, including cannabis but if i can't even get pepper seeds to come out how the hell am i gonna get cannabis to?

Patientence....keep messing with that stuff and your going to kill them.

I have planted some indoors to start (using rapid rooters). The pepper seeds planted took about 2 weeks to germinate.

i grow chili and sweet peppers and i always sow my seeds in soil in a wide container and keep it damp and warm in a week latest i got seedlings . simple but effective

As cephalopod said "Don't Keep Messing with them".
If Pepper seeds don't quite have the Perfect Conditions they can take up to a Month to Germinate sometimes...
I planted 6 Chilli Pepper Seeds on the 16th Jan 2012 in a Heated Propagator and today (29th Jan.) i've still only got 2 that have sprouted so far.
There is a lot of Video's on You Tube on How to grow Chilli's from seed if you need some Advice

I bought some of those seed strips that are round and hold about 7 or so seeds i had 5 different kinds of peppers hot and sweet took anywhere from a week and a half to 3 weeks plus, all so that my kitten at the time could have fun eating them along with my basil. I wanted to cry because of how much tending and love i was giving them, they would of been my nicest pepper plants so far they got started indoors at the end of dec, beginning of Jan and were about2-4 inches in March when the cat killed em. So they take forever to start but once they get established and are comfy they go quick!

Keep em between 75 – 85 degree range, the colder it is the slower they grow, and less is more with peppers you can easily love em to death, the hot kinds I kept almost on the arid side by letting a lot dry up before watering them. In the end if you want hotter peppers, dehydrate them before harvesting the peppers it concentrates the juices, same is true to hydrate them heavily if you want less hot or diluted peppers (but you wont see much difference hotness is usually gene related.)

You know what they say about growing peppers

Public Enemy No.1........plant them into 2" peat pots, filled with seed-start mix. about 3/4" deep. keep moist, warm, and in the light. i'm doin' pepperacini, jalapenos, pimentos, and chilies. very good for you.

Do not use miracle grow on veggies or anything besides flowers that you won't consume, especially peppers and cannabis. Unless it's the organic stuff, which is a rip-off.

I currently have ghost chilli seeds sown in soil indoors and after 2 weeks I still haven't seen anything happening. Peppers always seem to be the last things to show up. Patience is key with peppers.

This is my closet pepper garden. To the left of what you see here is my germination area, which has a single T8 fluoro hanging less than a foot above my 36 newly sown seeds, with a heating pad beneath them. The back row are 3 Giant Ghost chilies, though the one on the right has shown extremely stunted growth, and will be replaced with a different variety soon. The front left is a Purple Beauty bell pepper. All of these big ones (5gal) were sown FOUR MONTHS ago. It's simply trial and error until more of us veggieheads establish good data on how peppers like to grow indoors!

These are my 9 Hot Cow Horn babies, and #10 (front left) is a 5-Color Marble. These were sown around xmas, so don't beat yourself up over slow/poor germination. Peppers indeed are slow to start, as several folks have noted.

For those curious, these are currently under 400w MH 16/8, and I'm using General Organic nutes + all organic/soilless media. This is pretty much an experiment and a learning process, so anyone with advice on what you see here, feel free to comment here, or better yet, PM me so as not to jack Mr. Dillinger's thread. Keep the faith, you WILL eventually get sprouts under the right conditions!

Just a thought... Did you buy the seeds or scape them from peppers you bought for food..? Most of the capsicums/peppers bought from shops have infertile seeds, like bananas, hence growing them is not generally possible. Some of the speciality peppers you might be lucky with, or just stump up for seeds. I'll be starting mine under lights indoor this year and am really looking forward to the difference on harvesting :0)

i have some pepper plants all in one put. i put way to many into it but ive had them since about september and they still havent grown peppers. there still alive since i live in tx and its hot as balls here still.

I agree with hengus if they are a or store bought hybrid or gmo plant that you took seeds out of then they may not grow. and if they do then they might not produce. I found that out the hard way one year with my garden. you need heirloom seeds. those ghost peppers are hot!!!!!!!!! 1000000 sco

Still haven't gotten my ghost chillies to germinate. Its been almost two months. Got em from my dad who bought em somewhere. Ill have to order them from baker creek I guess.

I sow peppers directly in soil in a small container, with a bag over it for humidity. Keep the bag wet, the soil moist, and give em some light. Mine seemed to sprout at the same speed whether I gave 24/0 or 18/6 lighting.
Also, make sure you're not planting them really deep.

Like everyone else mentioned - pepper seeds are picky and can take a long time to germ. In my experience they are one of the hardest typical garden seeds to germinate.

Hello sir, as everyone else has mentioned peppers take EXTREMELY long to germinate. i planted about 5 seeds directly in soil once and it was 3 weeks before my first seedling popped up. 2 months later i still had oddball seedlings popping up. patience is key they are just a long germinator.

peppers are also pretty tough to grow (in my experience) so if you can pull it off i think you can grow just about anything.

same here havin trouble wit my green pepper seeds. every thing else has germed so i just figured they need more time. some sprout have shown it took 6 days tho. just be patient im not much the veggie grower but like everything else with time they will thrive
