Yep, another newbie CFL grow! Kind of

The leds can be removed completely nfrom the bulb housing. It's just a thin board with 2 wires, a solid ground and coated positive. You can just Daisy chain them on an extension coard wire. I did a 2ft x 2 1/2ft micro fridge grow last winter with them in lines across the top of the fridge. (Edit 2 winters ago. It's a journal on here somewhere. )

8w led is way more efficient than 80w cfl. But I am a big believer in use what you have.

I look forward to watching your journey. Looking good.

Sweet! Thank you so much for sharing that. Now you got my engineering mind moving a million miles a minute. What an ingenious idea! I already have an insane idea. LOL here we go! Thank you so much really I love going down these rabbit holes.

I totally agree on the efficiency. In the past I had some really amazing success with these larger bulbs, so I wanted to give another go. And I'm willing to pay for it for now at least!

Thanks for joining this journey, you're amazing input is greatly appreciated. Happy growing to you, with blessings and peace:D

Buddy you are a lifesaver! I now have enough lumens and wattage on these little seedlings until I can afford a good setup in a few weeks.

One 6500k and one 2700k in there now :)

Brilliant!
no problem....you can do a complete grow with a good set of them just fyi...........i've done it....save your money for other things

get yourself a set of 5 with 2 different k amount to mix.......get 5 aluminum bells and hang them down......one strip....and a timer......now you have a grow setup that will last a long time

the only other money...is prolly a tent...

Fatso sativa pheno Day 12 of flowering, glad I did the little LST I did, getting stretchy as expected. Hoping to see confirmed sex in the next 10 days.

Looking at this scraggly plant, and now fixing the light situation for my seedlings (see next post), I am definitely getting an LED, most likely the Vivosun VS1000 in 2 weeks.

I plan to finish the Fatso under the CFLs, and use the LED and new tent for the GG4s. As long as Fatso is a girly.

Trying not to plan too strict a course. Meteors and fires can strike any grow at any time :o :P especially with bag seed.

Have to say, though, now I remember why I left CFLs in the dust lol

Regardless, the plant is healthy and happy, so that's good! And it smells of garlic (since day 1!), and now papaya and a little skunky, too, in the last couple of days.

If indeed female, the flowers will smell amazing, I'm sure!

Almost forgot. The LEDs got so hot, had to take 'em down. Couldn't touch the small one, a fire hazard for sure. Ended up taking one of my CFLs outta the flower tent, and now we are at peace again. With a lower wattage in the flowering tent, thankfully only temporarily, but I'd rather live to sow another day:hump:

Took a fan over, too. Temps are perfect now, in both grows. Guess it's all for the best at the moment. Goin with the flowin :D

The fourth of the these GG4s runted, but I found one more seed! See if it comes alive like the other 3. Can't wait to put them under the LED in two weeks  and guess I'll have to journal them in a different part of the forum, too!

Happy growing y'all:bigjoint:

See the above post. Forgot to reply to yours

Gonna have to get more than the tent, but I planned on it anyways! But hey, it was worth the shot.

First preflower forming, day 13 flowering. It's too small to tell, moment of truth in the next few days!

Edit- through the scope and my eye, I'm 99% sure pistils will be popping out soon. My phone camera is weak, and in this photo it looks much more spade shaped like a male. Most of all, though, I'm excited not to see both! Either way, I'm a happy grower.

And obviously the GG4s are loving the 85w CFL. I rearranged the light/fan placement, mucho better. Day 4, looking nice.

IMG_20210715_204229993_HDR.jpg

If you can believe (cuz I am still trying to wrap my head around this), I found ANOTHER seed from a brand called Claybourne- a strain called One Night Stand, an amazing indica. Only one seed in an 1/8th, but this is getting ridiculous:shock: 3 strains in a row, all top shelf. Tryna germ as I write this.

What is going on out there in commercial cannabis world, besides corruption, lies and deceit? Oh well, not my concern, soon enough anyways! So many reasons to grow your own. Peace, blessings and happy growing y'all

Thought it would be fun to photo my seedlings everyday to see the daily progression under CFL.

Four Gorilla Glue 4s and one One Night Stand. The three larger GG4s on day 5, the smaller one on day 2. One Night Stand should be popping any day.

IMG_20210718_230247138_HDR.jpg

Meanwhile- Fatso is skinny and stretching, moved CFLs into 2 to 5 inches from all parts of the top of the plant. Day 15 since flipping to 10/14. Think I saw a pistil or two :)

IMG_20210718_231320304_HDR.jpg

Learned something new today. While reading about possibilities of why my plant is taking so long to flower and has not shown pre-flowers... The 24-hour light cycle during veg! Very cool. More variables to consider lol.

I love how the learning process is never ending with these plants.

And I changed my mind about the lighting! I'm going to get the LED for the Fatso in 2 weeks, then a tent for all my seedlings and move all CFLs into there for vegging.

Stay tuned, same bat channel, same bat crazy!

One Night Stand came up a one leafed runted mutant. Wasn't meant to be, I guess. I'm not really a one-night stand kind of soul anyways :p my gg4s are beautiful enough, and more light for them anyways!

A little trick I learned growing with CFLs over the years. I fill the seedling pot only three quarters the way up. Then, after it sprouts up and grows for a few days I fill in the rest of the container to take care of the stretch. Works like a charm! If you look at the photo above of the the newest gg4 (as well as the other waiting to sprout) and then look at the photo below, you can see.

Then again, when they are transplanted into the three gallon pots I flower them in, any more stretch is taken care of again by planting slightly deeper.

Decided to scrap the idea for an LED grow light for now. In the spirit of this thread, and of why I started growing in the first place again, I'm going to keep this all CFL.

Here come the flowers:blsmoke:

IMG_20210719_233224151.jpg

IMG_20210719_233229110.jpg

Added some CFLs. 3 x 23w 2700k and one 23w 5000k. Now a total of 262w of CFLs to finish the show.

And the veg box now has 154w of CFLs, and a bigger box. Think I'm good for a bit, time to chill and watch the grass grow:blsmoke:

np, remember flower time is gonna be longer than normal.......this would be a good time to start learning the biology, and how it grows, and what to look for....ok.....and when you decide to go with LED bulbs...don't put them so close to the plant, 18" to 20" from the top straight down, you'll get the hang of it.....

WHRE ARE MY UPDATES!? IT'S BEEN 2 DAYS!

jk I hope you're doing well. The plants look nice and healthy and happy.
It took me 20 minutes to make this post to say hello. Well worth it.

Ha! There's the lurker! Thank you for the kind comment:) I've been shying away from this site, it's kind of abrasive...not you, of course :bigjoint: starting to remember why I left this site years and years ago.

And you were correct! It's funny, because I've predominantly grown bag seed over the years, and I must have been extremely lucky because I never had any issues. This round, however, I've lost a few. Very runty and weird lol. But the remaining three are doing very well. Couldn't be happier!

IMG_20210721_224043698_HDR.jpg

Very excited the Fatso is a female after all. I keep going back and forth over the LED light, but I think I'm going to get it. It's way more efficient for the yield, it's just going to put a slight dent in my wallet. But I plan to grow consistently from here on out, so it'll be worth the investment. The cannabis taxes here in CA are INSANE.

It is very good to hear from you, was wondering if you were still around :D hope you and yours are doing well on this beautiful day
