I see I have more reading to do. Any recommendations, fellas?
I say go for a Waterfarm, like The Dawg's if you're slightly ambitious, but you can also just buy a pre-built Waterfarm if you're in a hurry. That's my vote, for what it's worth. I've done DWC in the past a bunch of times, using an ultrasonic fogger to wet the roots above the water level. It worked ok for me. (I just had the same nute problems that I had in my last grow to varying degrees.)

That's what I would do. And a waterfarm would be an excellent way to start out doing hydro. I really like the modifications that brother Dawg made to his waterfarms, too.

Hey, I already got those seeds I ordered last week! Herbie's Seeds really provides great service!

They gave me an extra feminized Barney's Farm seed for each 5-seed packet that I bought. So they gave me:
  • one Critical Kush and
  • one Chronic Thunder

Those 2 seeds are probably worth about $20. I know that the Critical Kush is a high-THC, top notch strain. Never tried the Chronic Thunder yet. Herbie's also gave me a few other seeds in a little container, some feminized, others not. I really like Herbie's.
I always love seeing unique packaging for small items. I spent one or two years in advertising so im always interested in seeing how people package things. I have yet to see packaging like these, very cool.

I hear about these strain a lot on RIU, and im a newbie when it comes to the plants specifically with popularity and preferences(Im just a filter guy, LOL). I was curious if they have both THC and CBD or if they are more used for the THC. After looking at everything from a, what molecule is this that I have to remove standpoint, im trying to start learning why certain strains are chosen over others. Everyone on here is always informative, so I figured I would ask quick. I certainly don't want to steal your thread away from you or ask anything bad, please let me know if I do.

I don't want to take over GreatBranch's thread either, so if it gets more involved, I can answer more questions in pm's, but I'll just tell you real quick that yes, some of us do look for higher-CBD strains, besides high THC. I like them both as high as possible, because I think they both help to relieve my nerve pain and back spasms. All 4 of the strains in the picture are in that category.
I think that Indicas tend to have higher CBD levels. CBD is probably the most medically beneficial of the cannabinoids. Higher-CBD strains tend to give a "couch lock" stone effect felt in the body and less of a cerebral high. I need something that'll make me "comfortably numb", so I go for indica-dominant strains every time. That's about all I know.

Been tempted at all to try the CBD Crew seeds? Those are 9% or so CBD...don't know if I want to give up all of the THC, though. Also, TGA has a couple. CBDs is where all the research is these days. Though, as the medical community continues to move toward idiocy and inefficiency, you will see an increase in the "boogeyman" studies.

It continues to fascinate me how the whole of the plants are worth more than the sums of their parts...terpene/CBD/THC combinations.

Thread-jack away, fellas. Nobody is paying any attention to me but you guys anyway. bongsmilie

I have been seeing a lot of CBD talk in a lot of the news lately, seems to be the big positive note that the media is pushing. Im glad to get some insight from people who are in the middle of the information though.

It would be interesting to see if they start to extract just certain parts of the plant and if they become less effective when separated form each other. I think your right Greatbranch, I think all of them together is what makes them beneficial.

You've been growing strawberry cough for this thread correct? What are the numbers on that particular strain?

I agree with you 100% on all this (except for the last sentence). My state, Minnesota, just passed a "medical marijuana" bill that only lets people buy cannabis extracts in the form of oil or pills, containing a balance of cannabinoids that the state health commissioner deems appropriate for a particular illness. The legislature got to this point from a decent, comprehensive bill that would have allowed dispensaries to sell actual weed, possibly in part because of a "boogeyman" study that came out about a month ago claiming that marijuana causes brain abnormalities. (The police were the main opposition, too, probably because they depend on drug bust money to some extent.)

I happened to notice those CBD Crew seeds last time I was at Herbie's. I think that THC helps me to laugh at my pain even when I can still feel it, so I wish it were higher in their strains. But yeah, 9% CBD is way up there.

The Israeli scientist who discovered THC wrote about what he called "the entourage effect" which is the property that if you have a broad spectrum of cannabinoids, each one works better than it would by itself.

Strawberry cough is one, yes. White lemon is the other, though my ramblings and photos have been all over the place...lol. I don't really know the numbers on those, as they aren't all advertised. If I had to guess, the strawberry cough would roll in about 17% / .08%-1%. It can get up there, though. Several of the top 25 THC % this year were strawberry cough. Something called Bruce Banner was the be all, end all at 27-something. Good luck finding it. It will be the new Girl Scout Cookies with fakes showing up everywhere.

They are already isolating the individual chemicals. CBD oil is big business for seizure medication now. Many parents are moving to CO just because they can't get the CBD oil for their kids in non-legal states.

The "I don't give a f- effect" goes a long way in controlling my pain as well! And it really helps to keep nausea down. :spew: Pain do that to you guys?

I don't think I get nauseous from my back pain. I just get back spasms after having a lot of nerve pain. But I do get nauseous from a chronic condition called "gastroparesis", which means that food sits in my stomach for a very long time due to nerve damage slowing down my digestion. When it's bad I can't eat for a few days. But once I toke a little, the pain in my stomach goes away enough to be able to eat normally. It's a real godsend.

I don't get pain often, or sick for that matter. I do know a few people that get nauseous from pain, they have severe migraines. I hear that migraines are also covered under medical marijuana, which would be good to help.

Im sorry to hear that, im glad that it helps. Does the increased metabolism boost help to also digest and reduce the pain? or is it more of a pain reducer? I don't mean to pry, my mom was a nurse for my whole life so ive been cursed with a medical mind and I sometimes pry too much.

I don't mind at all. You know, when I get stoned and eat, I'm always surprised that eating and sometimes OVER eating when I'm high doesn't make me sick again. Do you think that it might also help get the digestion going? I've wondered about that.

I also know a lady who gets migraines and when she gets a bad one she gets so nauseous that she throws up. I've had dry heaves from my stomach condition, but I don't think I'm able to throw up due to my ab muscles not working anymore.

Hey The Dawg Wants His Tent Back
Gotta be looking awfully familiar about now. Watching my plants has to have been like watching other people's unruly children in public. You wanted to say something, but didn't want to offend...lol. I learned a valuable lesson about height - The sweet spot is everything when it comes to LEDs. So, any and everything that can be done to keep the majority of the plant in that range should be done. Seems like such a no-brainer, but there's nothing quite like seeing it for yourself. So, I had to get a proper screen into service pronto.(working on another for the other tent). I am also not going to be running as many strains as I have been. Some of these bitches will choke another bitch out - just like weeds...again...makes sense, but no substitute for seeing. Now, it's all about maximizing the available light footprint. 10 plants, 1 plant...doesn't matter with the exception of watering hassle. More plants does NOT equal more or even EQUAL yield especially if you don't have the majority of your vegetation in the sweet spot. I feel like such a dunce. Why didn't y'all say something?...SHIT, I'd get over it...lol. Now, for those who might not understand what I am talking about - I have fashioned on of those 1,000 word thingies... I was just creating many issues for myself that could be cleared up by running strains with similar characteristics. I was fighting too many differing variables. Again, seeing is understanding, but this just seems like common sense now.

So, just bend down the Sativa, you say? - well, now it is taking up the horizontal footprint of 2 plants instead of 1 and covering something else. Prop up the Indica? - now it got wider and took more space from its' neighbors too. To be fair to myself THIS is the shit I didn't think about before putting 5 plants of differing strains in there.

Hmmm... I guess I never thought about that either. Otherwise I would have said something. Just with my limited skills I would try to keep all my plants the same when growing a bunch together. But I didn't know there was anything inherently wrong with it. Makes sense now to me, too!

Willomena is getting stripped of her fan leaves and going in the dark for a couple days. Not exactly a failure, but not what I hoped for. I did not allow enough space to main-line her properly. I was right about the branches dominating others, but space is more likely the reason than anything else.

She's about a 50/50 by the way. The breeder says she still grows quite a bit into flowering...that's an understatement.

I knew I was making my life difficult. I just didn't know HOW difficult. And by crowding them up, I've essentially lost anything I would have gained by main-lining. This is just my "results" phase where I note what to improve. I am glad The Dawg is taking pity on me. I'm excited about learning hydro. In his defense, he's been telling me what I should be doing differently. He's just been too nice about it...lol.
