Sativied's Picture Journal

Instead of scattering my photos over several threads and several forums, and considering the missing albums, and as an alternative to a regular journal, I'm starting this thread to log some of my ongoing grows and breeding projects with mostly just pics.

Flower closet 600w, 4x4', flooded tubes with 6 plants.
2x veg small preveg/germ/clone box with 3x18w T8, small DWC boxes and coco bottles
Nutrients H&G AB + GHE Bloom, 350-500 ppm

Currently looking for females to create F2 generation, of 3 different crosses. Basically just testing if any are worthy to continue working with (all from same male).

Ok, let's start with IH#1, a cross between ICE female and CH male. Late whorler. More sativa than its mom. She and her siblings start like this:

After transplanting rooted clone (top) from small DWC, 3 weeks ago:

Next up is IH#5, she's a special lady and like many of her siblings inherited whorled phyllotaxy (3-4 leaves per set on the same level) from my male CH.

Seedling (clone-mother):

Notice the bonus node:

IH5 is right in the back. Most vigorous plant I've ever grown. Running 390ppm.

The IH plants above are a cross of ICE seeds I kept in my fridge for 7 years and a frosty quad-whorled (as in 4 leaves per set) Cannalope Haze male (which supposedly is actually C99).

ICE female:

Massive branching during transition:

Seeded bud. Note the lack of trichs on the sugar leaves. I expect this will not be the case in its offspring (which are sparkly from day 1).

P#5 is (a chunk x CH) a mutant I'm flowering just to observe, for fun that is. The mutation is called fasciation.

Here she was just after rooting and transplant. Had a bit of rough start, battling itself for space.

Notice how the stem double horizontally about midway:
pen5_3.jpg

It kept on doing that and now looks like this:

P5_12_2.jpg

Some leaves don't come with a lateral shoot and all laterals are skinny. Again, not a desirable trait but this mutation should produce some weird looking buds - one of them anyway. It's the plant in the middle in the front of the previous group shots.

P#1A (front left) & P#1B (center back), both clones from the same promising looking plant. Tri-whorled like IH#5. The P#1A cutting was taken later (from the plants I sexed during selection) than B and started flowering on 20/4... not just preflowers also reverted back to single leaflets. 5 days of 24hrs light flipped it back. Still lots of huge fans with only 1 or 3 leaflets and an insane amount of branching. Will have to prune some more shoots probably.

P#1B in center back had slower start, smaller clone. Since it's next to the huge IH#5 that's not a bad thing. 5 bud sites in previous group shots.

P#6 (front right in group shot) the only one with regular opposite phyllotaxy. A backup clone with massive roots in early stage, replaced P#4 (tri-whorled). Not topped, just pinched end bended the top a little. Turns out to be a great plant so far.

P6_12_3b.jpg

Needed very little work to keep canopy fairly even (i.e. weak apical dominance, a good thing)

Cool trait, I'm curious how the buds will look when it's near harvest!
Me too, never been this curious to see buds form. Especially of the IH#5 because the whorl is strong in that one (2nd gen clone - the topped parts - still whorling). Also after seeing the sparkly seedlings for months I look forward to see how frosty the eventual buds will be.

ICE x CH (which I refer to as IH), Chunk x CH (which I refer to as P), and Late Night x CH (still Late Night), all produce only frosty seedlings. For example:

Late Night:
LateNight_3.jpg

frozenL8N8seedling.jpg

frostyLateNight.jpg

Same plant as last two pics above: 6 days 12/12 (already mature and preflowers before the switch)
L8N8_day612.jpg

I'm putting Late Night on hold for a while so I can focus on the IH and P. Late night is as expected very stretchy (test plant in coco not in tubes), will have to try and cross its taste with IH or P some day.

The only seeds of the seed run with the same male I hadn't tested yet is CH (haze pheno) x CH, so I popped 10 seeds, at least I thought it was 10, got 11 seedlings:
sparkle_test2.jpg

Will need a few more hours / half a day before I can tell if they are as sparkly as the out-crosses.

CHxCH sparkle test.

sparkle_test4.jpg

Turns out they're like the offspring of the 3 outcrosses.

Note: I call them "sparkles" because they are not just non-glandular hairs and not glandular trichs on a stalk either, just the secretory head. I'm very curious to see if the regular frost is going to be 'added' or replacing the sparkles. I will do a lab test sooner or later and will test one of the seedlings in addition to buds to see what's in it.

nice pics and healthy plants :)
i like this one

it shows that natural kind of yellowing the leaves do on some strains as they enter flower
they green up more as they grow, sometimes i think they grow so fast during this phase
they produce the leaves first then fully green them up later

Somehow the flash makes it a little more yellowish than it really is, it's more a light/lime green in reality but I agree with your theory, it builds the leaves so fast it needs to catch up creating the chlorophyll.

I got a newer version of the picture you quoted, will post it in a sec from my pc.

And good to see you around during s.f. season. :)

i know what you mean about the flash, they look exactly the same as some of my plants do when they enter flower,
i notice it more on the sativa leaning types than the indicas some of them do quite a drastic lime green/yellow thing last one i had that did it was jamican grape
the colour shift is so evenly spread it looks natural through the leaves and the leaves look lush its never patchy
so i do not think it is any kind of problem i never try to correct it, i think others with less experience might think its a problem and try to give extra nitrogen
the leaves grow that colour its not like they are green and fade
in hydro during this phase they really are spitting out leaves at a crazy rate

peace

Yeah, been there, ending up with too dark leaves at the bottom storing excessive N within days (hydro besides fast vegging also being a fast teacher :)). Also around this point when the flowers start to form I've had the opposite reaction, as in seemingly getting lighter tips thinking I should reduce the nute level (which around that time in my case comes down to relatively more N and less P and K ending up with once again too dark green).
