Anyone have experience with double ended bulb?

So, setting up another one! 1500 sq ft warehouse. 4 flower rooms. 6 1000s in each. 36k mini split. Open air hoods. Wanna try out some new technology and see wht the hype is. I got 12 ft ceilings, the guys at hydro shop said I should try double ended 1000s. Anyone using these?

I'm curious about penetration with these... there's basically a 600w HPS and a 400w MH side by side inside the bulb, which makes me think that the overall penetration may be reduced to the effective penetration of the 600w hps. I mean if you hung a 600w next to a 400w you'd be looking at less penetration than a 1000w hps for certain... so why not in this case? Maybe being so close together and/or in the same tube makes a difference. I don't know.

My inclination is to think that it would be a worthwhile upgrade from a 600w hps... but when compared to a 1000w hps, the upside of the added MH spectrum may be negated by a change in penetrative power.

He's talking about double ended lamps, not dual element lamps. Dual element have an HPS and an MH element and run together in the same envelope. They're okay, but I haven't found them to be worth the cost.

Double ended lamps are widely used in Colorado commercial mmj warehouses. That should answer your question.

From the research I did, it's compelled different technology. Can't really be compared to a 600 and 400 from what I read.

The penetration is suppose to be absolutely ridiculous. The bulb has no filament, pretty much let's the bulb get to full potential. You have to keep these things like 4 ft from the top of your canopy.

My shop will not carry gravitas, nor will they even order them for you. Claim they are serious fire hazards, and a bunch of other things. Id have to go with a solis tek.

I know of MANY people killing it with Gavitas and NEVER heard of any fires. I do Know they are seriously back ordered and hard to get. They probably just don't want to wait on making a sell.

The owner and I have become good friends over the last 6 years and a lot of money. He isn't doing anything "sketchy" like that, he has my best interest in mind. They carried gavitas, and 3 customers house caught on fire(these were not inexperienced grower either, traded out atleast 4k to gavitas). He won't carry them anymore. While they might not be as bad as he says, he's never lead me down the wrong path either.

I got a 2000 w hood, I still havnt gotten the ballasts for it. Even with cool tubes I imagine it being wicked hot, may have to hang it high

As long as you realize that you can't air-cool these things, and you have plenty head height, go for it!
I usually only shine an air-cooled 1000w hps over a 4'X4' area @ around 24" above tops. It's looking like 5.5'X5.5' is the equivalent with the DE(on max setting) @ 36-38" above tops.

I can't justify buying it because people in CO use it. No offense to any co dwellers, everytime I have gone out the majority the bud I got from dispencery was garbage. Same with Cali. Would occasionally find some fire.
I wish the shops had to tell you exactly how shit was grown. Then we would know why it was good or bad. What works and what doesn't.

Those were not inexperienced growers, there shit burnt down because the gavitas. They are not the only double ended bulb/ballast. This isn't a battle of gavitas. Not sure why you think someone trading out 1ks for led needs to "wear a helmet". They side by side them 3 times before making the switch. That wasn't an uneducated purchase. I saw the flowers from the 1k and led, led destroyed the hps. No questions asked.

They are not the only double ended bulb/ballast. This isn't a battle of gavitas. I'm asking about doubles ended bulbs in general, not gavitas.

You're right they're not. The de 1000 was designed to use with the phillips 400v de bulb, the Epapillion also uses this bulb. Even though the Epap is designed to throw side lighting, the gavita dominates it in every test I've seen. Also the phantom and Ushio don't come close.

I know growers that will swear by "insert brand here" ballasts and bulbs and protest that they are the best too. Doesn't mean they are right. If you don't believe me do the research yourself, I've done my fair share.

Ok I don't know sales figures, but lets assume Gavita is number one desired light, and for a good reason. Some salesman who runs a hydrostore says they suck for whatever reason, buy my shit etc. Are you going to blindly trust that salesman because he seems like a good guy? Who knows his motive, maybe does believe they are inferior (who cares about one persons opinion...but I digress) maybe he doesn't agree with Gavitas business practices, maybe there’s more financial interest in other brands etc.

I really dislike arguing about LEDs. It seems no matter how much proof they are inferior in all large applications, people will fight to the death saying that LEDs are superior. Most people who argue have one in their 2x2 tent. Never saw someone use 30 in a grow, must be special.

All my unbiased opinions, I have nothing to sell or gain by whatever decision you make. Not trying to argue just trying to help out.

All your points are valid, I'm not saying that. And I'm not saying he is correct and your wrong. His opinion time and time again has been correct. Whether a gavita is great or not, I simply can not get then where I am at. (No internet purchases allowed IMO), so it simply must be tossed out.
If that means that double ended should be thrown out completely, that's fine.
As far as the LED goes, the guy that traded them is one the OG of indoor where I'm at. His first grow light was a street light in the early 80s. His opinion is highly valued to me, along wit the shop owner.
