Yo RIU I need help. Im in the process of curing my current harvest an noticed I had about 10g's of bud that I could use for making the butter! I still have some shake an trim from my last harvest and planned on throwing it in as well. How long should I let the buds from my current harvest dry and cure before I make the cannabutter? Also what the heck do I need besides butter, (equipment wise)? I know I could stand to use more bud but thats about all I have to use not trying to use the rest of the plant lol! My total dry weight was 85g on 1 plant. Im guessing if I have to I could use more but its my first time and don't really know what the hell I'm doing.

I would take your bud and trim and put it in a pan with 3 sticks of unsalted butter . Add a 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract . Heat butter on low heat , just long enough to melt butter, then turn off heat and let it soak . Do not over heat because butter will turn bitter . Reheat butter every few hours and continue to soak for about 18 to 24 hours . Strain mixture in a strainer and put into containers . Should recover approx. 2 , 1/2 cup servings . you can then bake cookies , brownies . or Rice Krispie treat batches . What ever you like . What ever butter it calls for ..... use one of the 1/2 cup portions and the rest regular butter . This is how to control how much medicated butter is in every batch of edibles .

ok now, would the stove top method be better or the croc pot? I planned on using the croc pot method and leaving it at around 200 \ degrees or so

I never used the Crop pot but the way I do mines is I fills a pot up with water( half way) and got probably an oz of blue dream and put it in a cheese cloth, roll the sides up and tie. To keep buds from escaping. Got a mason jar, took 3 sticks of butter melt it in mason jar put egg cloth in jar screw top on and let jar sit in the boiling water in the pot for 4-6hrs. Works for me. I never used the Vanilla but will try it right now

good luck . keep us updated on how things go .

for a fun sample recipe to try ....
Make a batch of Rice Krispie treats as normal . Add a dram of Toffee candy flavoring ( can buy at Hobby Lobby ) and a bag of toffee bits ( buy at market ) . Add toffee flavoring to melted marshmallows and add toffee bits with rice krispies . Mix well and place into a baking sheet . cool and cut into squares .

If you do burn it, a little vanilla extract (1 tsp) will help you out with taking the bite out of it. Also, chocolate does wonders. Sometimes, even if the butter isn't burnt it will be bitter. Some of the stronger batches of butter I have made were pretty bitter. I would suggest also for another recipe on the Crispies, add 1/2 cup of peanut butter and melt 1.5 cups of milk chocolate chips with 3 tblsp of butter for an awesome glaze to pour over the top. You will taste a hint of ganja on the first bite, but that is it. PB and choco after that. Be careful tho. These will have 7 tblspn of butter in the recipe and can be VERY strong. Eat 1/4 or 1/2 to start.

I think I made it a lil too strong and by strong I mean effect wise! Its not bitter to the taste at all however, it hits me in about 40 mins but I don't weigh much lol! had a little test run with some last nite on a piece of toast sprinkled with a lil sugar. I didn't use the vanilla extract this time but I did end up using a mix of butter and 4 tablespoons of organic food grade coconut oil I saw that it has a higher burn tolerance and more fat than butter and besides i have a buddy who uses it! i'll post pics later. I was expecting the top layer of butter to come out brown but instead its a pretty green color!!!

Next time try using veggie/olive oil, I personally find that butter extracts worse than almost any other kindof ffat (ive used butter, olive ooil, veggie oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil and even bacon grease).

Coconut oil is probably easiest to.get a.really good extraction and recovery.

What I do is I decarb my plant material in the oven in a deep pan with tinfoil over the top on 215 for 22 minutes. After that I put my oil in a large pot (melt it in there if you are uaing coconut) then I'll add my plant material. Ussually I use way more plant than oil so I add water to make sure the plant material is covered in liquid and not going to burn.

I put this mixture on 2.5 on my stove and let sit for 8 hours stirring occasionallyand adding water as needed. After the 8 hours is up irs ussually like 12 at nnight so I turn it off to sit for the night rhen I do another 6-10 hours the next day.

After its done I use a cloth to strain the liquid from the leaf by squeezing. When all the liquid is in a container (large mixing bowl for example) I jist toss it in the freezer and the oil comes to the top of the water. The water freezes and you.can take your oil right off the top. And your done.

Atta boy! When I say strong, I meant effect also. My girl ate a whole treat a couple nights ago before bed and told me she had to talk herself through not dying. I fucking love that girl. She says the funniest shit sometimes.

You would be crying to come down from some of the brownish butters I have made. Color is not always a gauge. Some of the batches with a lot of scissor hash and kief that I have made are VERY brown and were far from burnt. It come down to how it is made. I like the cheese-cloth teabag boil method. It usually has an extremely light color, but as I said, you will be begging to come down easily if you are a rookie. It's pure and should be mixed by this method, but has a really nice effect. With edibles, always tread lightly.
