Prices of gas and goods going up increases price in the product. Labor costs and building costs can raise prices too.

Everyone wants a piece of the pie. In distribution every player takes a cut. Price rises down the chain to allow profit at each step.

If something starts eating at the profits it is natural for the business to look for cuts they can make.

What would happen to employees already making above minimum wage? Employers wont want to raise wages above the minimum as they adjust to the new cost of labor.
