Does anyone know of a tutorial on how to do this? (with pictures) i just dont want to do it wrong. my plants are on their 4th week of veg is this i good time to trim them up and top them?

Its in FAQ..look in trimming pruning ..or advanced methods..can't remember which, but it is there.
 
First of all i dnt top ever. I dnt belive it does anything but control the height of plant.
What ya want to do is cut the top off. Ya cant do it wrong.

Why i dnt top my plants is because if ya look at the photo that plant will only grow 6 colas or tops. If i dnt top it may produce 11 or 15 or 20 and so forth.
 
what are you yapping on about.

that plant will produce 2 main colas.
you un-topped plant will produce 1.
 
Ya dnt get it...... 11 or 15 0r 20 tops. is better then 6 tops. Each branch produces a cola if ya cut the top off a plant like in the photo ya get 6 tops. Do you want 6 tops on your plant or do ya want 11,15, or 20 tops? Its pretty simple. Give me a chance and you will see the light.

Someday you will get it.

locate the very top of the new growth. (1)

with a sterilized blade, cut approximately 80% of the new growth off the plant.

That is better then topping a little. I would not do either one.

My wisdom comes from doing it. Im like 40 some years old and have tried them all.
 
right, i have no idea where you are getting those figures from.
here's where i'm coming from.

one produces one large cola, one produces 2.

please draw me a diagram because i cannot see how you are figuring this.

ok mlisten up sparky your plant has only 1 top and many side branches your side branches are not tops and dont produce as many buds as a main cola. the main cola being the main top of the plant now if you cut that off you will have 2 or more main colas as well as the side branches.you do not know what your talking about so please stop embarrasing yourself and your parents.
