If you have a old dyer outlet, it will be a 3 prong outlet. You new dryer will with a 4 prong cord.. If what I say doesn't make sense and you KNOW that you can deal with it, OK, if you are squeamish., call an electrician, it will cost you around $80.
1- turn of the 2-pole 30 Amp breaker and test at outlet to be sure
2- when you remove the outlet, you will have a black/red/white wire going to it, Look at the screws, on the blk/red wire both will be going to dark screws, and the white will be going to a silver screw. On your new outlet, determine which are the dark, and the silver one. Put the wires onto your new outlet in the same way(blk/red no order as long as they go to a dark screw)
3-The last screw on the new outlet will be green, this is your ground, and HAS to go to your ground wire which is inside your box(hopefully there is slack on it)
4- make SURE all screws are tight, and gently push the outlet back in the box, put the cover on, do not plug the dryer in until you have turned on the breaker. No explosion after the breaker is turned on, you should be OK. Plug in, turn on, and it should fine. Good luck, and may God have mercy on your soul, if you fuck up

Need ground to outlet, old one's didn't, They used to use neutral as ground, Not allowed anymore.

Doesn't need to be to code. If there is an existing three prong you are allowed to put a three prong on your dryer.
Only needs to be to code if your selling.
A person has the right to use an existing three prong outlet.
I misread. This dude is talking about it only has a 110 outlet. He needs help or he will kill himself.

It is not allowed to be installed in new structures. You are allowed to use existing three prong.

Tell that to any homeowner or renters insurance after you burn down a house.
You have no rights to do any electrical work not up to code.... No one does. That's the craziest thing I've ever heard. Code is there to keep people safe at all times.
You can use the 3 prong outlet. Correct. You can not alter a 4 prong dryer to a 3 prong.
Im done after this. Tired of arguing electric with people. Will just stay out of it from now on.

I didnt say that. I said you have the right to use existing three prong outlet. It not electric work putting a cord on a dryer.
If you install a new outlet it needs to be up to code.
Also new dryers are set up to handle a three or 4 prong wire. They even come with instructions for both.

Dont get me wrong Im anal when it comes to safety. I worked industrial maint before going into business for my self. Triple phase 440/880. No room for being unsafe.

I could of chose better wording. New work needs to be up to code but you don't have to uodate wiring every time code changes. I dont advocate anyone perform out of code or unsafe work.
I won't even smoke if Im doing something unsafe.
On a new dryer you put the ground on the neutral.
