Glad to have you Overdose, you'll be fighting for second place behind me!

There's not a person on the list that can touch my hybrid light assault!

I'm still testing my mods and making adjustments. Here's an over look. Seeds are still soaking. My place has been really cold indoors (making hash). Seeds are taking longer to sprout. Only the fem cheese has sprouted.

Here's the test and assembly

I'm doing a modified sip (sub irrigated planter) of this build. It's like using a blumats without the blumat.

FB_IMG_1454563758622.jpg

First hefty brand 16 oz cup. With several holes on the bottom.

20160225_004705.jpg

Then I cut the top of a water bottle and made some holes in it. This will be my wicking pot inside the cup.

20160225_004711.jpg

20160225_004723.jpg

Then filled wicking part with coco and then soil on top

Instead of the bottom of the cup being the resi and having to refill 20 times a day. I made holes in the cup and then it sits in a resi. Then I'm able to use air stones as well. This isn't the actual resi I'll be using. I need to go get a tray with a lid tomorrow. It's actually my trim bin

I'm thinking I need to make more holes in the water bottle part. It doesn't seem to be wicking water much. Still testing..... Before I had too many holes and it was over saturating. .

I think you need to get that girl closer to the light
Its in the middle of 6 plants, four are over six feet tall. Its about 3.5 feet from the light. Its in a contraption i made for the contest and on a bucket. i cant decide if i should light proof the cup or not. If i lift the top up i can see the water level from outside the "forest" because i can see through the cup. If i light proof it im going to have to get in the middle every time to see the water level. Its a tough call. Either way im slacking on putting the name and date on the cup so i really have to get my shit together. Im not cheatin though, that shitty sprout is unmistakable, and obviously not how to cheat if ya were planning on cheating. I think its going to straighten out in a week.......or die. And ya know they say, if he dies, he dies.image.png

Thats funny, that was like my first idea cept i was going to have the wicks coming from above so i didnt have to put holes in the bottom. I might try it next cup cup. Hope you can tweek it right.

I made one like the diagram and one with a straw going down like larger sips eith pvc and realized how small the resi would be. I wanted to use air stones too.. Then it just donned on me to submerge it into a larger resi.

I would be worried about the loss of room in the cup for roots. My idea was an octopus looking thing that would have a bunch of cups surrounding the one grow cup. Wicks from all the cups right into the grow cup. Fill one or two when your sprouting, fill all six in bloom. I was stoned when i thought it up. No idea if it would work. I was hoping the other water rez cups being higher up would cause a syphon effect sucking water down. I did hard drugs as a kid, can you tell yet?

Well I do sip's in my regular garden now. I'm finding out you don't need as much root space as normally because of the amount of oxygen the roots get from the bottom and they're being watered more efficiently. Not too wet and not too dry but just damp enough. It helps create a larger microbial population in the soil.

Nice SIP @hyroot !
I had a similar idea with my cup
20160216_204413.jpg 20160216_202706.jpg 20160216_204815.jpg 20160216_212034.jpg

I needed this cup to have automated watering, and to be connected to my already installed blumat feed lines.

I cut a hole in the bottom of a small fabric pot and stuck a netpot through. Ziptied it secure to the fabric and filled her with perlite. Soil sits directly on top of the perlite. Fabric pot sits inside the cup with air holes for breathing. I have the 3mm drip line from a blumat carrot taped in position to drop water into the empty space around the netcup and the cup cup- essentially a swick resevoir. I have a drain hole set about 2/3 up the perlite.

I can dial the blumat carrot to whatever I'd like- from small drips all day to a steady stream, like a hyrbic RDWC..I think?
The blumat fills the bottom portion of the cup with water. This soaks the perlite, allowing the soil to wick up moisture as she needs it. Eventually, her roots will be grown all into the moist perlite and into the actual water as well, similar to an octopot. That's the vision anyway.

I got a little busy today after talking with @Rahz from Tastyled.com ... He seems quite interested in our little contest, and says he will happily provide a Tasty T1-2100 for the second place winner, and though we're not there yet, he wants in for #9 !

This T1-2100 is a perfect light for all you little cabinet growers! A single Cree CXB3590 driven with a Meanwell LPF series at slightly over 2 amps (almost 80 watts) makes for a highly efficient long living COB!

(^^^^^^^^LINK^^^^^^^^)

I'm a little jealous guys! These snazzy COB pre-fabs are outta my price point, winning one is the only chance I'd have to play with one! Good Luck Folks!
Go check out Tasty's website, check out their KILLER deals and real world science backing their claims! Give 'em a call or message them right here on RIU @Rahz if you have any questions!
I can't wait to see what you guys got in terms of skill! There's some pretty sweet gear lined up for those that can endure the test of time!
Thanks again Rahz! We're all excited about having a fantastic sponsor willing to give such a great prize to someone in the community. Feel free to chime in anytime around here brotha, questions, comments, advertising, hell even some shit talk would be fine!

Ok first official post in the fabric-lined cups.

Germ Date: 2/21
Soil Date: 2/24 (Day 0)

Environment/details were already posted and summarized in the security pic/sheet. Since they're all the same seeds and same dates going into the soil I just marked the cups by number 1-5. Any worthy one's should have plenty of time to break through by the 29th.

Pics showing the cups/seeds and their environment.

The side grow 2 oz. cups are at Day 3, a couple are taking off quick and the others are peeking through, looking like all 5 will break soil. Frankly, I was hoping only a couple would make it - lol They're going to be a pain in the butt to keep watered, but looks like my long term purpose for these will work just fine for popping seeds in these baby cups :)

That light looks great. Just what a guy needs in this situation. Man i was really hoping that the smoke cartel would come through with some killer glass for the contest. Their stuff looks so good but i cant afford it right now, and ive never owned a bong before. I gotta say that winning lights is pretty f'n bomb though.

I just did something similar to this as an experiment. Only no solid medium. Just water.

The only thing I would say is once it gets bigger than a seedling the res ends up way small and you end up having to add water more than once a day. Which is not good for me lol.

Even a 2 liter DWC is insanely small and the plant will drink that in a day easy, even if you put the netpot outside the reservoir like in the picture;
I feel that. My 3 gallon dwc buckets have to be refilled every day the last couple weeks of flower.
