I would toss a guess to say too much water. When I let them dry out (still damp but no shiny water or sheen on the paper towel), the fine hairs really start filling out the tap root. Too wet, and they can get lazy and even can rot or die without any sign of rot externally.

These were just watered, and as is are borderline too wet imo. I will let them dry some before putting the dome back. Too lazy to stick in coco but they need to be planted.

24hrs swimming in a glass of tap water.

From there to these little plastic containers, half folded coffee filter, moist, no drops of water should be dripping when tipped before putting the dome on (some can be there but higher risk for problems ime). 2 days in the little domes, refreshing daily, and they will literally grow in there.

Next time you can try putting some moist soil in a cup, poke a hole in the soil and put in your seed, cover with a small amount of soil and then cover the cup loosely in plastic wrap. Don't even think about looking at it for 3 days - I've had pretty good luck this way, but the paper towel trick worked pretty good too. Too much water is bad, too little water is bad. Just keep trying :bigjoint:

Buy some el cheapo seeds from a seed bank, if they sprout then yer your seeds were crap, if they dont sprout then id assume the problem was you and your seeds aint crap :-)
This assumes a complete control over every variable which is hardly possible. If they were mush, it's likely too wet, or they got moldy and died off. Change the paper towels/coffee filters daily for best chance at fending off mold.

No it dosent assume complete control over every variable only that you purchase seed that you know aint crap and will germinate 100% and then do a comparison with the seed you suspect is dud.

I couldnt make it any simpler and the results will answer the Op's question of wether his seeds are crap or not :-)
