Here's another one for ya.

Deneguan AKA chocolate meat.

The "chocolate" is actually the cows blood that it cooks in till it reduces to a gelatinous black coating.

I had some kind of Vietnamese cow blood soup once. I didn't know what those little red cubes were so I ate one and :spew:then I asked the waiter what it was and he told me cows blood! I wasn't so much grossed by the thought, I mean, I love a bloody ass steak. It just didn't taste good and had a weird texture.

I thought I would try to class it up once when having some friends over and put out a nice hors d'oeuvre plate, cheese, crackers, shrimp, etc. I went to the cheese counter and asked for a recommendation. Big mistake, I was congested at the time when tried a little at the store, seemed ok to me. NOPE! It was universally described as tasting like the "water that drains out of a trash truck" and smelled the same. My congestion went away a couple days later and that's when I noticed the funk in the house.

Yup, that's it. It's great as hot chocolate, but on chicken not so much.
Too sweet. When I was a kid a friend's abuela used to make it from baker's cocoa and the rest of the spices with just a tiny pinch of sugar to cut the cocoa bitter. Trust me it was fantastic, I make it like she did and you would like it. The commercial brands of mole are like sugar, hence, crap. Mole was an Azteca dish and they didn't have much in the way of sugar.

Addendum: I grew some chilhuacle negros this summer, drying them down and gonna split the crop with C2G. Those chiles are allegedly the ones the Aztecs used for mole and now days very hard to get

You guys suck. Every foods thread turns into Mexican/Southwest cooking. I sit here drooling over this shit and I can't have any because of my fucking digestive problems. I used to drown my food in hot sauce, hot peppers, chili.... now a frigging jalapeño is to spicy for me sometimes and fucks me up. :finger::finger::finger: I'm going to eat some white bread with unsalted butter:finger::finger:
