I feel exactly as you do. I might forgive him the day after he faces a firing squad.Not that I'm particularly religious but to forgive is part of healing. Forgiveness is for the benefit of the harmed. They can forgive whether the perp (I won't write his name) understands their deed or not. But forgiveness has to be given to be a healing power and not forced. Most but not all of the people affected by the Charleston shooter forgave the perp. It's about moving on and being ready to do so. The grace of those people are amazing.
And yeah, I haven't forgiven him even though I'm just a bystander. Again, the grace of the people who forgave him is amazing to me. But that forgiveness is helping them, not the shooter. The shooter hasn't shown any remorse. He's still burning inside. I hope he chokes on it.
And I'm against the death penalty...
