It baffles me. My father quit church and became an ordained minister. He and a couple other divorced guys are building a church.

After my father retired he uprooted from where he lived and worked for over 30 years because he had a calling to preach in a particular area.

He was told by several churches he couldn't be a deacon or preacher because he was divorced.

If you look at the actual scripture it doesn't say anything about being divorced. It states a man shall not have more than one wife. My father has never had more than one wife.

The Pharisees approached Jesus and asked him about divorce. He said it was allowed.

It boils down to why you divorce. If you divorce because of lust then you did it for the wrong reasons. Divorce is allowed in certain circumstances. Things like a spouse abandoning you etc. My mom was going to ruin my dads career and life. He divorced her to protect his government job and retirement.

Not only did these couple churches shun him over it they called every church in the surrounding towns and had him black balled.

The church he came from was a faith based church and he was allowed to serve. The churches around here are law based churches.

Maybe a difference in values can explain it. Trump espouses values of economic liberty, loyalty and authority over caring. I do tend to argue caring over fairness or economic liberty. Clearly my viewpoint has little weight in the conservative mindset. I've dismissed the "thats not fair" or the "but they do it" or "because it's illegal" arguments before because I don't value those nearly as much as I do caring for others. But I was wrong to devalue another's morality system. If I were trying to convince another, I should have stressed other values. No wonder there is little agreement over Trump between liberals and right wingers.
