Hello folks... I'm growing Strawberry kush, and Cookies kush and I'm wondering if the kushs' stink while growing, and how bad.

I also have Twilight and Girl scout cookies F/x growing as well. Do any of these stink like skunk at all to where people would take notice.

Any input is much appreciated. :?

Thats question has a compound complex answer because you have different phenomes within the same strain. Its like your brother may take after your dad but you may take after your mom and your sister my look like a carbon copy of your grandma. One kush hybrid could take its smell from its mother and another seed of the same strain could get the gene responsible for its smell from its father. And environmental factors can effect the smell

Your best bet is to grow out a few strains and keep the ones that fit into your flavor/ smell profile

My wife made me put a carbon filter into my seedling/early veg tent. It was stanking up the entire floor. We are a legal grow in a legal state, but she didn't want the smell.

Most people prefer the terpy strains these days.

There was a time though when growers sought out the least stinky strains. Some of the old timers probably remember, I know I've heard stories of growing before carbon filters (I was around, just not growing).

Good luck, but I'd recommend carbon filters and good fans.

Don't smell, don't tell, don't sell. The world keeps revolving.

I have to disagree, mine is a skunky messed up stink that permeates the room in early flower.
Again, depends on the pheno. Also probably depends on the genetics/breeder. I've grown more runs of NL than I could count and by in large it's a low odor strain especially in comparison to some of the really loud varieties people favor now. It isn't just me either, Google 'low odor cannabis strains' and NL will pop up near the top of almost every list you find.

there's phenotype, then genotype.
I've grown all the NL I could find online and while I did find genotypes that were low odor the bulk of mine were very loud, so loud I had to question the true lineage of the few that were not.

we're able to choose between my chem grown here and my chem grown in a friends place for example. Both are awesome but they are different buds reporting

I wrote about this in a different thread, but I'll recap here... I have an old friend that brought back about 25 NL seeds from Amsterdam inside ballpoint pens back in 1992 or 1993. Bought them direcrly from Sensi Seeds (formerly The Seed Bank) which is the breeder that put the strain on the map and who supposedly acquired it from the original grower (some guy people call 'the indian' from an island off the coast of seattle). He grew about 15 of them out and cloned the best female. He continues to run clones off of that original mother to this day. This friend is the person that got me into growing and taught me a good deal of what I know about horticulture in general. I grew several clones from this mother between 1996 and 1999. The genetics he has are arguably the purest expression of NL you're probably going to find anywhere outside of Amsterdam or, if the lineage was preserved, the Pacific Northwest. So I guess what I'm saying is, I've grown and seen others grow an undeniably legitimate cut of NL and, with certain phenotypical exceptions, it's a comparatively low odor strain. The smell it has is amazing, but not particularly loud.

You're dead on man. The first NL I ever got my hands back in 92 didn't have much smell at all but it blew my head off. That always stuck with me when people would claim to have "the real" NL. Love the strain. It's great for stealth. I'm not sure if sensi is still selling the same stuff they put out in the late 80's early 90's. I've heard different rumors about them losing their mothers years ago. I wish I still had my circa 88 cut of sk#1. Total fire.

Yeah man, I hear you. If I ever end up moving to the same state my buddy is in you can bet your ass I'll be getting my grubby hands on some of those NL clones. If and when I'll run a journal on them.

I miss the old school dank. I've been getting a taste of it in Amsterdam but the old skunks are gone. Tried some of that LSD bud at Amnesia and it had the old school trippy skunk buzz to it. LOVED IT! Not the dank road kill smell though. I'll keep on searching though.
