Thursday's highly anticipated face-off between Alaska governor Sarah Palin and Delaware senator Joe Biden was the most-watched vp debate of all time.
Last night's event was seen by nearly 70 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research.
That's the most-viewed debate -- presidential or vp -- since the second round between Bill Clinton, Ross Perot and George Bush in 1992 and possibly the most since 1980's famed debate between Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter).
Thursday's event was 33% higher than Friday's top-of-the-ticket debate between John McCain and Barack Obama. It's 61% higher than the 2004 debate between Dick Cheney and John Edwards.
And it ranks 23% higher than the former title-holder for the most-watched vp debate -- the 1984 match between George Bush and Geraldine Ferrarro (56.7 million).
Thursday's debate was expected to potentially overthrow Friday's presidential debate in viewers due to questions about Palin's readiness and because the vp match was held on a Thursday, the most-watched night of the week. This audience response puts the election back onto the familiar historic and record-breaking ratings territory that characterized the convention coverage.
ABC drew the largest audience with 13.1 million viewers, followed by NBC (12.8 million). Fox News led among cable networks with 11.1 million with its most-watched telecast in the network's 12-year history. For CNN, with 10.7 million, last night was the channel's third most-watched event ever. MSNBC drew 4.4 million.
The national Nielsen number includes viewers watching the debate live on 11 networks -- NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, PBS, CNN, Fox News, CSPAN, MSNBC, CNBC, Telemundo, and Telefutura. In addition: PBS is projecting 3.5 million viewers and a 2.3 HH rating.
The debate might even be the most-watched since Reagan vs. Carter (80.6 million). The total from last night is 69,989,000 viewers. Normally that's rounded to 70 million, but since a 1992 debate is listed as 69.9 million and Nielsen said the exact total is not readily available, the measurement company is using the more conservative 69.9 number in its official vp debate
announcement.

Some of his comments that he has made about the war that I think may in my world disqualifies someone from consideration as the next commander in chief.

So I guess I have to apologize about being a little annoyed, but that is also an indication of being outside that Washington elite and being outside the media elite also and just wanting to talk and just wanting to talk to Americans without the filter and let them know what we stand for.

Try reading Palin's answers without the visual, it is virtually impossible. Sounds like a incoherent robotic data dump from the kid who crammed for the book report but didn't actually read and/or understand the book. Reminded me a lot of this other beauty queen:
