I appreciate the kind words lol but I may not be a liberal on the US spectrum (would be if american, given the limited options) I am most certainly a liberal, a right winged conservative liberal (without the god stuff), on most days anyway. That’s a mindfuck for Trump supporters by itself. Yes, they exist
I usually vote for the conservative (neo)liberal party based on the legacy of the most well-known Liberal in Dutch history Thorbecke who single handedly revised our constitution to reduce the king’s power in favor of the Dutch parliament.
We have progressive / social liberals too since 1966, they call themselves Democrats66. Unlike in the US, they are outspoken atheists.
By attacking “liberalism”, “liberals” and “libtards”, the GOP and trumpers attack the Democrats but sometimes it seems that is also part of an ongoing attempt to forever equate liberalism with “left”.
And not “muslims” but Islam, which is incompatible with a liberal pluralistic society.

Maybe the tolerant liberal multicultural Netherlands is doing it wrong. Maybe Islam just doesn’t fit here. Ask any muslim or better, ex-muslimah, in NL and you’ll know the answer.
To be a liberal in NL means being as anti-Islam as being anti-fascist. Anything else would be hypocritical and selfish. To suggest I am not a liberal because I’m not a leftie is to suggest it is the Brits and not Americans who have an English accent.
I never suggested my ideas about Islam translate well to pragmatic political policies though. It’s above all a moral issue. The only wall I want is the same one Thorbecke strengthened:
