Hey I was just wondering if there was a shelf life after you dilute to the 1:20 ratio? The reason I ask is because when I first made my 1 gallon hydroguard “equivalent”, the mixed smelled very clean with a hint of bleach. After about a week I went to smell it and it kind of smelled like someone farted in the jug and hurriedly closed the cap. I’m not sure if I should continue to use it or get rid of it and make a new jug? Has anyone had this experience?

Lol, I'm far from expert as I've only been using it a few days myself but I assume fart in jug smell is a bad thing lol. I'm guessing you probably shouldn't dilute it until you're ready to use it.

I'm still trying to figure this stuff out too. First time I used it, it made my system smell like a fish tank. Changed water, add more and I get that fresh almost bleach like smell.

Slowly getting better I think. Some plants doing better than others. Thinking about changing up my veg set up. Roots look good while dangling in the air but than not as good once they reach and submerge in the water. Thinking about maybe changing it to more of a flood and drain type set up. Gonna give it another week first though before deciding if I should make any changes or not.

NEVER DILUTE SAG. The bacteria are stored in a food source. If you cut it with water, your killing them.

I thought that is what everyone is doing when adding to res. Someone said if you just drop it in out of a pipet, that you'll end up with a high concentration on your roots (the brown slime, not rot)

I could be wrong but I'm guessing Jypsy is talking about making a diluted stock solution. I'm sure it's ok to dilute it right before you use it. Correct if me if I'm wrong though Jypsy.

How white do the roots get using sag? My plants seemingly look like they're getting healthier again and my roots seem to be growing and losing the mush and slime but mostly still very brown in color(a couple of them looking fairly white though). I'll take a couple pics and post em. Will be interesting to see what color the roots are when the new plants roots reach the water.

either way, fantastic progress. those new healthy white roots are perfect.
make sure you get the sag from the stalk down (at the top of the netpot). try to get it in every nook and cranny. take a separate 5 gal bucket with just sag and water and dunk those netpots about 5 times each.

That's with both the piranha and sag. I just mixed in the sag when it came because it was only a few days after my last res change that I added the piranha. On Thursday I'll be changing the res again, using only the sag.
K i'll dunk them some more. Have only done it one or two times but it does look like they could use more.
They certainly do seem to be heading in the right direction now. I'll try to keep posting pictures and updates. Wish I would of took pictures a week ago but honestly they looked so bad I just couldn't bring myself to do it lol.
