Thanks brother - if you notice, even Super Mario couldn't produce a tip burn free head of lettuce that could be considered marketable.
You can see that leaf texture is thick and in my opinion undesirable as well.
Would like to see how your photo boost strips would do.
White / red seems to be what is working best on lettuce in my personal testing so far with a splash of 730 :peace:

I've never grown food crops indoors, it does interest me. I may setup a rack or just a little lettuce table with a few strips. The PPFD needed is super low so its only a few strips. Not rocking any side by side tho.

Super mario has a few other test. They look pretty good to me. Especially since he's more of a plug and play reviewer vs what could be made DIY.

Figured I'd throw some of my latest led lettuce adventures up to keep the thread alive and fresh.
These are grow under a CopperHead LED CX-4 with some diy 730 and under a 12/12 cycle at that. Looks most promising yet!

But, we are getting a bit of tip burn setting in so harvesting these. Note that they are in water culture.

And to update the Cree Par38 LED Lettuce grow - it seems to have peter'd out and I'm gonna scrap that one.....

Do you have any idea what diodes Thrive Agritech is using in their linear lights?

Black seeded Simpson and buttercrunch.
Some will receive a uv treatment (on the uva side of uvb) that looks something like one day (maybe 6-8 hours) on, four to seven days without uv.

Looking good but I'm having trouble following what is what. Is the mix with the perlite the "Black Gold Seed Starting Mix"?
Do you know what kind of LUX levels your giving them with LED?

Yes, the one with all the perlite is the black gold seed starter.
Readings from a cell phone app.
In the cab with no uv 4 - 7 thousand.

In the party cup cab with uv and red 19 thousand (neither were on during reading).

Window light and t5, 8 or 9 thousand right now, probably over 20k at certain times of day.

Other than the lettuce you see foxglove and Indian peace pipe (can't spell the botanical name nicotinicia or something like that).

4-7K lux seems to be the sweet spot from what I have been testing with Cree Bulbs (white light)
You should't be getting that much stretch at 20K Lux from T5. Maybe too much far red hitting them due to the angle of the sun coming through the window or something?

Didn't think of sun angle. The t5 is about 30 in above the trays and is a mix of bulbs, the increase would only be from windowlight. I can switch bulbs in the fixture to get more blue if you think that will help. The cup cab is a mix of 3000K and 3500K and is the only one on 12/12. The other one is mix of 2700, 3500 and 5000K cobs.
There is quite a variability in each of the environments too.

30" is way too high for T5.
I'd bring em down to 18" or less depending on how many bulb the fixture is etc.
It's an 8 lamp 2 footer but they under sized the ballasts imo. It's probably closer to 24 in in reality, I don't want to sacrifice distribution to the other houseplants, so is probably not gonna get any closer.

One is Metal Halide, the other is Cree BR40 LED bulb - which is which?

The same is true for any light source, just that cause leds mimic point sources, not only is there a distribution but there are interference "patterens".

The bottom is led.
Deduced from shadow angle not color, because they are installed above the kitchen sink.
Bottom isn't a choice :lol:

it's left or right, the plants where not grown where the photo was taken. The two photos are just slightly different angles of the pair of plants.

Jeeze teach, you really not playin, it's been more than 15 years since I sparked an HID and I never did lettuce under one!

Right is led, smooth papery look and leaf margin burn/bleaching looks more severe than the one on the left. Although it looks like the leaf burn bleaching covers a greater area (not percentage cause the leaves are bigger too) on the left plant.

Plant on the right, final answer.

Maybe the kitchen lighting is throwing off the color a bit cause neither is bleached.
But you are correct - the right is LED....
Definitely not spanking the MH but each round I grow with led experimentation is getting better and better and I haven't given up yet ;)
