Bar light in 2x2 tent questions

I have a Spider Farmer G300W on the way. I also have a 2x2 tent on the way. I am new to the bar lights and am curious as to how warm the actual bars and ends of the lights get. Spider Farmer shows that the od of the light is 24" x 24". Is that going to cause a problem if I mount it in the tent and it is touching the sides due to heat? Either melting or fire hazard?

If it os ok, my plan is to mount it as high as I can so it stays stationary and doesn't need raised over the course of the grow. I can dim it or put the plant on a stand as needed. I will be growing a single auto in there from start to finish.

Anybody happen to have a G300W and can check those temps? Just trying to get an idea before I set everything up

It’ll probably be fine touching the walls. My hlg light (QB) gets around 120F on the driver. I doubt the bar lights even get that hot.

i don’t know about the stationary idea though. I don’t have any bar lights but they seem to need to be fairly close to the canopy. Running them on full bore to compensate light distance may (just guess here) cause your tent to be hot.

Youll just need to experiment once you get it running.

Most (all?) tents specify the exterior dimensions.

E.g. a 2' x 2' tent might be 23"x23" internal dimensions

Measure twice, buy once

Yeah. I work with what I have. In this case, I happened to win the tent and the light. You do bring up an interesting point though. I was only thinking about the thickness of the fabric. I did not bring the poles into consideration. So, this experiment may be over before it begins.

I'm just trying to maximize the efficiency of the 2x2 for 1 auto flower. From my understanding, the 100W vs1000 is on the bottom side of the recommended lighting for the area, but I will run that if the G300W doesn't fit at all.

My plan is to set it at whatever percentage it needs to be at and put milk crate(s) under the plant to change the height to canopy. That way I wouldn't have to monkey with raising and lowering the light that is shoe horned in the space. But, as Billy pointed out, it may all just be a day dream at this point. Light should be here Sunday if tracking is accurate. I will report back.

Thanks guys!!!!

True, I broke a sweat forcing two 24”x48” wire rack shelves into the bottom of my 4x4 tent. Basically ended up slowly stretching my tent out until they fit. Don’t recommended but it worked.

ah, I see. I need some plant risers too. I have a few shorties that need some help.

I like the milk crate idea. I don’t know where you even get those nowadays. I might need to take a drive behind some grocery stores to find some.

Id image stacking the crates can get sketchy so maybe throw a brick in the bottom ones and zip tie the crates together.

You can pick up all sorts at big box stores in the organization sections. A lot of stuff in college back to school that stacks and is usable for book cases and stuff. As far as heavy duty, real deal, milk crates, I have no idea. Is that even still a thing? Lol

Right now I have a @Cultiuana 660w bar light in my 4x4, when the tent is closed up the walls suck in touching the sides of the light. No issues as of yet. I doubt you will have issues.

Side note: In that small of a space, I’d run the fan & filter (if used) outside the tent with ducting running to the roof port.

Thank you. That is the plan!!

For future reference, the Spiderfarmer G300W will not fit in a 2x2 tent. I tried to shoehorn it in there but the poles said no way. Sooo, I just hung the VS1000 that came with the tent kit and will be using that instead. The G300W found its way into my 3x3. Probably a good thing since the 300w light would have definitely been overkill in the 2x2. As far as the temperature goes, I don't think there would be any problem whatsoever if the ends or bars were resting against the sides of the tent.
