Make no mistake there is a Ukrainian language, closely related to Russian, but everybody in Ukraine speaks Russian and in Belarus they do it with an accent and more western influence.

Post war Ukraine will prosper and they will live like shit in Russia, many young talented Russians will end up in Ukraine, politics and attitude will determine things, not so much language or ethnicity. They will be broadcasting the good life into Russia as the older generation dies off. They share a Slavic culture and language and there will be many Russian broadcasters working out of Ukraine and perhaps Belarus.

In 5 years time they will have the military might to keep Russia in check on their own. Vlad can't put an iron curtain across the middle of the Slavic world, not in this day and age. Technology changes societies and it will help to do the same for Russia, but they might have trouble getting much of it or be able to afford it.

Yep, they will have a lost decade if the war ended tomorrow and they went liberal democratic overnight. Ukraine will have seized Russian money and a lot of rebuilding to do, Europe will also need NG for another decade at least and Ukraine has it. All the petroleum producing countries will face a market crunch one day, first as gasoline demand diminishes over the next decade with the introduction of EVs. Gas prices have a big impact on politics in the west and will become much less of a factor as markets shrink.
