Being a newbie I was wondering.

As someone who has been on fire and created a 2 foot long glass tube flame thrower on separate occasions, and someone who doesn't smoke often, I would save the BHO for special occasions. It's powerful voodoo magic in that there oil. It also trashes tolerance quick.
I prefer roisin or my favourite proper dry sift hash if your going the concentrates route bho can be good too it is just my prefrences

Hash is like spices for me. I don't want it straight just a sprinkling in the middle of a bowl pack. If @Blue_Focus has never had quality nugs before any extracts will probably land him in the loony bin
I met my best friend over a bowl with some hash sprinkled in behind a convenience store back in high-school. Highest either of us had been up to that point.

I too would go to the loony bin if I smoked straight extract at this stage of life lol

@Tolerance Break explains it well. I’d add that a lot of the names are just marketing in a new industry. Are you sure you’ve never smoked bud before? I never really recall leaf for sale in any era, as it’s pretty ineffective. No comparison in potency. It’s like root beer vs whiskey. One will do nothing but give a headache (maybe a mellow buzz if you’ve got good sugar leaf). But, yeah, flower is where it’s at, and the genetics are improved considerably since the 80s, when in my experience we simply bought what we could get, though by that time there were already many more than a few well established varieties, if you could get your hands on it (Acapulco gold, Thai stick, skunk, Northern Lights, Afghani…) all these and more were names I remember hearing in the 80s. First trip to Amsterdam was like heaven. We’re in a golden age now.
A lot of dealers back in the day, at least around me, used to sell trim for cheap and bud for higher. I have had both, and your comparison is spot on.

I'm not just poking fun at a lightweight.... 15 years of staying blitz on the dankness has landed me in the looney bin. So please proceed with caution

You will be. Smoke the buds, purge the leafs. Bho is real easy to make. Any glass blower will make you an extraction tube for like 20 bucks. Stuff your sugar leaf in it tape a coffee filter over the open end and blast a can of butain though it until it runs out clear onto a Pyrex dish set it on a hot plate between 95-105f and wait for the gas to boil off and whip it up with a skewer. Wear insulated gloves or use a wash rag as it comes out cold af don't want to see ya get frost bite on your hands you'll get a waxy substance that's about 90%thc. Takes about 500ml of butane to purge a oz of plant matter. Butane is combustible so no flames or heat over 200f in the extraction area. Seen a few people catch their kitchen on fire acting stupid.
Why butane and not something else cold? Like Freon.

Roisin is cleaner and tastier, it's heat only extract, the mesh bags cost$$ and I have trouble with collection always feel like I waste a lot from spills and getting stuck/burnt off of the hot plates.

Its not hash unless its decarbed and pressed its just kief and i disagree about the roisin being tastier i find well made dry sift slightly better than roisin also more versatile but mind you i started smoking on import hash so i guess that swayed me too

It's just the most effective solvent. People also use isoprofic alcohol but everytime I tried that it tasted like garbage. Butane boils at 14f. I don't think the cold is what matters
Chloroform is actually one of the best solvents for cannabis solubility just isnt used much

My UK cheese is musky like stinking cheese with back notes of sweetness. Defently not a methane cow fart type smell
Aye the uk cheese is like rank cheesey feet type smells rather than the edible kind maybe almost parmesan but not quite with some skunk notes with backnotes of sweetness again depends on the cut tho theres a few uk cheese cuts that get passed around some will be crosses others just different cuts cos of environmental changes and stuff over the years or whatever the brightside cut is the one you want really stinks the most of the bunch but its not so readily available to most some offline folk got it i think thats about it these days think the most common one in usa is the one csi and that got

Skunk is a complex question. Some say skunk was bred out of skunk, some say that people who don't smoke are more likely to smell the skunk in regular weed with a higher thyol level.

Weed names started (more or less) as land of origin. Kush from the Kush mountain region, afghan, aucopoco gold, Columbian, Mexican, etc... that evolved as lines started being worked in the west, like Haze, skunk, blueberry, etc. So it moved from land of origin to scents and effects. There were always exceptions, Northern Lights for example, but imo the last big popular strain with meaning behind the name was Blue Dream (blueberry x haze). Then people just started naming shit whatever moved best. Cookies really started the sweet food naming convention, and a lack of creativity with a need for new flavor of the month weed a couple times a year did the rest.

Bud vs Leaves is like Muhammad Ali vs A particularly unskilled in boxing bus driver.
She definitely has the skunk smell now. Glad my carbon filter is working.
