What does a water pipe actually filter out of the smoke?

When times got tough and no weed could be found, we often would scrape the bowls of pipes, consolidate all the roaches and go through the jars of seeds, hoping to glean enough "material" to smoke. But, what was it that we were actually smoking? Tar? And what was in that tar? We called it "The Black Death"....lol! I remember smoking that stuff just because I was addicted to the ritual of smoking -going through the motions, etc. I also recall getting headaches after smoking it....and not much more....but it was better than nothing at the time.

What is in that tar? Is it better or somehow "healthier" that it's getting filtered out before we inhale it? Or, are those substances beneficial to the high? When smoking joints, nothing gets filtered, but I always seem to get higher from smoking hits on the bong.

Water pipes mainly filter out some of the ash, tar, and larger particles from the smoke, which can make hits smoother and less harsh on your throat and lungs. While it doesn't eliminate all harmful substances, it does help cool down the smoke and improve the overall smoking experience. Anyone else notice a big difference in flavor when using a water pipe?

Yes, I've noticed a flavor difference -especially when the joint is about half smoked. It must be the tar that's adding the flavor. But is that flavor also creating a different effect? Is it more "couch lock" to smoke a joint where you're getting that tar? Is it more "up" to smoke a bong and get rid of a bunch of that tar? Why are the effects different? Thanks

I feel like the smoke deposits cannabinoids and terps back into the flower yea. A half of fresh joint and the rest of it I dont notice much diff in high, all weed makes me sleepy.

Im dabs only it will be 2 years straight before I know it. Im thinking really hard lol. I remember smoking roaches in a bowl or roll a joint or blunt with it. It is different I cant explain though.

Extra groggy stone? Idk. I know bongs were always a bit more zooted. The bongs were getting bigger I started topping with kief. Then was like wow thats a lot of tar. Might as well be dabs only.

Lol the motions is the only thing I chase I feel sometimes.
But I'll suffer before I smoke that junk anymore. I may dry hit it but instant headache and I can even tell when my pipe is close to closing up because I'll stop getting high because it burns resin under the head.

Nasty nasty stuff so I just buy cheap throw away pipes now and use them until I can poke and blow the junk out to get a clean hit.

But since THC is dissolve in water I always felt bongs did nothing but give you asphyxiation from choking on that big of hit.

Nothing to do with large amounts of THC intake

I also heard that THC is NOT water soluble....but obviously that tar isn't water soluble, either and that's why it's "filtered" out of the smoke. The water just makes it gob together. With that in mind, it also must not be soluble if it gets into the lungs....right? Therefore, maybe it's a bit healthier to get rid of as much of it as possible BEFORE it can enter the lungs is what I'm thinking. But how much of the THC is trapped inside that gob of tar?

I also enjoy dabbing and I've noticed that when the concentrate is very clean, there is almost no residue in the nail....BUT, when it goes through the water, it definitely does coalesce and bead up in the stem. I assume that's just the vaporized concentrate reforming into drops as it gets cooled by the water. I tried a "wizard stone" once and there was literally nothing left after vaporization.

Thats weird Ive had bho and diamonds leave residue on my teeth like a bitch. My flower rosin and dry sift rosin dont. The flower rosin isnt like fullmelt but the drysift rosin is.

Some live resins didnt leave residue either but ya most bhos did. Its real irritating to my lungs and cough an extra few times getting it out of my lungs. I can pretty much feel it.

But ya its way cleaner being dabs only. Unless you vape weed.

THC and oils are not water soluble. The best way is glass pipe cleaned with acetone and washed out with hot water.
The water helps remove CO2 and particles from the stream.

Back in the day they sold pipes with chambers that you would fill with pot and the smoke would pass through. The issue was it stopped the flow unless you changed the pot regularly. But it did give you a variation of what you smoked.

It's strange to think that, when I smoke a joint, ALL the tar gets inhaled. And when I dab some clean concentrate, there is relatively little residue to be inhaled. The type of highs are definitely different.

I read somewhere that, when the body senses that something is "invading" it, it will generate more white blood cells in a similar response to what it does when we get a cold or the flu....meaning that it ups the immune response....and that may include the feeling of needing to rest and recuperate...lethargy....not wanting to do much.

Where I grew up in the upper midwest, the winters got severe and the flow of weed would often stop for several weeks at a time. When I was that age, I wasn't very disciplined and when I wanted to get high, I would go to almost any lengths to find something that would suffice until the roads cleared and people were up and running again. Many, many times, I smoked that "black death" stem tar only to get the worst headaches ever! But, at least I felt like I had smoked. Dumb, yeah, I know....but that was my youth!

Ive smoked all stems before. Somewhere I just never have to be anymore post legal. Unless you are anti store bought which Ive been developing. I rather quit using then go back to the store lol.

I do smoke bowls still I just want it to be my own grown to savor. Or else I just dont care Ive smoked the best of the generation for the most part. Thats whats cool about growing is the seed banks or direct purchases.

You get to have stuff exclusive never before had, what ever the hell you want it to be. I want to buy I think its from mike tyson, a freeze pipe. It has some fluid in it that freezes in the freezer.

I love bongs but hate the constant maintenence even though I last had some easy clean setup. Bong and funnel bowl with big hole. Baby bottle brush. Any way as to the topic I notice different highs from different pieces.

An eighth could last me like a year lol I just like the upbeat high like caffiene from dabs. Then at night I take pills that only dabs can over power enough to feel. Antipsycotics.

Not sure if the body's response to pot is to generate more white cells.
Been doing the cancer thing with blood tests and rest of crap, I suck on THC infused root beer barrels during the tests and prior to the test. There has been no high or low reading due to the pot.

When I was a crew chief and driving the rig when I was tired and falling asleep while driving, would take a few puffs and that would wake me up for an hour.

Sorry to hear about the cancer.

Yeah, I'm not sure what it was, exactly, but the article indicated that when you get high and feel that lethargic feeling, it's due to the body reacting to an invading "thing" that it's trying to throw off and, in the process, some of the immune system is activated to combat the invader. When I used to smoke cigarettes, I often felt like I was coming down with something.

I think it might relate to how much you intake. After I bled out on the table and they gave me extra blood the first time I burned after that operation it was like my first time. Paranoid and everything, I was thinking if it is like this I will not be able to function. Two days later all was normal again.

Often when I am unmotivated I will burn one to get up to speed

I was reading something that said the way nicotine and carcinogens interact with eachother in the smoke is what makes cigs bad. That comparing to weed the thc and etc with the carcinogens found in weed smoke dont cause cancer the same way if at all.

Thats just recalling something I read long ago. Thought that was on topic. That theres just a lot going on in the smoke. Weed being magical or rather just not well understood yet. I smoke cigs but noticed additive free makes a difference.

Need to quit. Wish it was like cannabis, I love tobacco.

Like hashinene, a new discoverd terp but the thing is its just one found. That was interesting, there could be many more and shows that weed actually can age like wine vs produce.
