Seeds won’t pop!!

Idk what is wrong I popped 3 Durban poison seeds germinated then the paper towel method and then planted in soil. Only one popped out other two did not. I gave it a whole week and then dug up the seeds they didn’t grow much and were dead . I guessed the seeds were older maybe that was the issue as I had the seeds for about 6 months in a dry area in a box in a closet. So I then bought two blue dream seeds and did the same process and they also didn’t pop out the soil today is day 5 and still nothing . Idk what is wrong . The soil is just happy frog with a mix of 70/30 coco perlite that I mixed into soil. I also used some worm castings that’s all. Could I just have bad luck or is there something I’m missing ?

Sorry for long run on sentence lol I’m just hella frustrated smh. Thanks in advance for all the help.

Ditch the paper towel and just plant them.........like nature intended.
Why are you mixing coco with soil?
I just always have I don’t use a lot . When I first started like 2 years ago it said online that it’s not a bad idea to make sure soil ain’t too packed. Maybe I can revisit to see if it’s needed .

I never planted them straight into soil tho.

Store seeds in the fridge I just popped 5 year old seeds like they were new. Could be the place you're getting them from
Fridge Hu? I’ll give that a try. When u take them out do u leave them room temp for a while before germinating ?

As stated - plant them in basic soil ( if growing this way ) - no custom mixes or internet BS.

As far seed viability- Unfortunately, yes. Like any organic matter, seeds lose viability with age , too dry conditions. They last a few months at room temperature, several years in cool, dark places, and up to a decade when refrigerated.

I place my seed packs in sealed plastic containers in the crisper drawer ( bottom ) of refrigerator , have many older strains that still pop.

I suggest you try Rapid Rooters and temps in the upper 70s.

I ditched the paper towel method quite awhile back. I've since simply put into shot glasses with water in room temp with upside down coffee mugs over them for a couple or 3 days. After they crack, whether showing a nub or up to 1/4 inch ish root, they go in pre-wetted potting mix about 1/4 deep and lightly covered. I use a clear cup for a dome for about a week after sprout. Sometimes I may burn a small hole on top for air. In my feeble mind I think it may make earlier dome removal easier on the sprout but I'm far from guru level.

Yea I actually had one of them still pop . But after this last round that I lost two seeds I think ima start planting them straight into the soil after leaving it in water like many of you guys have said . That seems to be the method most are using . Thanks for the response .
