what would you use hydrogen peroxide for?

I use it on every grow. It keeps everything clean...I don't get any green on the tops of my medium, provides oxygen(along with the airstone), keeps your res clean...Tried tested and proven...if you are not going with organic hydro, it is great stuff...otherwise I think grozyme is beneficial for organic. Just my 2 cents...

hyrdrogen perexide is a liquid compound and connot be simply turn into water, it only becomes deluted, but im sure after a while the peroxide does lose a few elements. But only becomes something else.
actually it does simply turn into water. H2O2 decomposes to H2O + O...so it turns into water and oxygenates your water

So the stuff you buy at the local store is 3% h2o2 and some other stuff. I think the other stuff is for ph buffer and and it has some thing to keep the h2o2 stable so when you purchase it you do not just purchase water.

If you had 100% pure h2o2 and it lost its extra o it would be drinkable, in theory,

In ww2 the Germans use h2o2 something around 100% as rocket fuel.

H2O2 will turn into water simply by being exposed to light for an extended period of time. That's why it always comes in an opaque container.

Um, hes right. Peroxide is very unstable, and can be used as a propellant. Pure h2o2will rapidly decompose creating o2 and steam, which can be used to propel something.

From wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrogen_peroxide
H2O2 can be used either as a monopropellant (not mixed with fuel) or as the oxidizer component of a bipropellant rocket. Use as a monopropellant takes advantage of the decomposition of 70–98+% concentration hydrogen peroxide into steam and oxygen. The propellant is pumped into a reaction chamber where a catalyst, usually a silver or platinum screen, triggers decomposition, producing steam at over 600 °C which is expelled through a nozzle, generating thrust. H2O2 monopropellant produces a maximum specific impulse (Isp) of 161 s (1.6 kN·s/kg), which makes it a low-performance monopropellant. Peroxide generates much less thrust than hydrazine, but is not toxic. The Bell Rocket Belt used hydrogen peroxide monopropellant.

I say a big NO.

Without getting too complicated, When H2O2 is dissolved in a water it losses an Oxygen atom (That becomes a free radical). Free Radicals like to "attach" themselves to other particles. In the case of living things "attach" may just as well read "KILL". This process is the same process that causes Iron to rust!!!

Yes it will Kill any nasty things in your root zone, but it will also kill all the good things, and worse of all weaken your root system, which is a precursor to numerous problems in itself.

As for Oxygenation almost all of the oxygen ions released when adding H2O2, will actually attach themselves to something before your root system can even imagine absorbing them.

i agree, its for cleaning and sterilization. if you want oxygenation, get a pump and airstone. a pump and airstone will be cheaper in the long-run because you buy them once, not bottle after bottle. this of cource is for hydro, if your running soil just use an well airated mix.

Ello there mate, thanks you answered just in time my plant needs watering bigtime & I was going to add the H2O2 until I read your answer.

Phew! ;-)

No worries, I was gonna post on your thread to tell you to leave the poor girl alone, but I figured you would come here for a response. You had me worried for a minute tho, when you said something about 50% strengh H2O2

There is nothing wrong with using h2o2, especially not in hydro, h2o2 @3% holds far more oxygen then a airstone can ever keep suspended in the water. The plants love it, no res clean up, no algae, and yes it will kill your beneficials right alongside the shit you do not want. The idea is that if you kill the bad stuff you will not need the beneficials.
Many people use it each watering or every 3-4 days. I use 35% strength at 1.7ml/G. 4 Gallons of the stuff cost me about $120, and lasts about a year. Your roots will love you for it, especially if you are in a dense medium.

Precisely, if it lives it kills it.

Leave the H202 alone people please! It's for cleaning
You are spreading disinformation mate, h202 has countless medicinal applications beyond cleaning counter tops. Just google h2o2 and all the experimental research that is being done from topical applications to ingested applications....
There are countless growers out there that swear by the stuff, don't just dog it without putting out any research mate.

WOW!!!! do you think the h2o2 asks for ID before killing shit! it kills ALL MICRO-ORGANISMS!! and it feeds NOTHING.

great 4th post!
See mate, look at the beneficials like cops in a shopping mall, you will need them if you have no other means of controlling the thieves. H202 will kill the thieves along with the cops, no need for cops when the thieves are gone. And in its place the h202 will leave oxygen, which the plants LOVE in the root zone.

Thats not the idea at all...there called benificials because, lets say it together, There Benificial.

benificial bacteria break down dead plant matter reducing root-rot. mychorizae fungi actually become an extention of your root system giving you better nutrient absorbsion. good micro-beasties form a symbiotic relationship with the plant.

and read back dude, h2o2 is plain water within hours of adding it to your rez. my airstone runs 24hrs a day, how do you figure your peroxide oxygenates better than my airstone?

theres been a torent of bad advise here lately, be careful...
