im a newb but ive read lots n lots of post n 420baby does like to argue alot lol i agree and understand the science to what uncleben is saying but lots of growers try the 48/72hr darkness fingy so maybe theres a reason why? im gonna test it on 2 of my plants.

I would like to know what your thoughts about going 24/0 darkness for last days before harvest(plant use whatevers left to synthesize nutrients etc?).

First off, weeds24 asked what is your (including everyones) opinion on having a 24 hour dark period prior to harvest.. Don't get mad when someone disagrees with what you have to say...they took the time to respond and voice there opinion, respect it..

I don't agree or disagree with anyone's post here.

Some say this, some say that. Just because someone says something that is then repeated on the internet does not make it true.

....does not make it false either. It takes a discussion of people and a handful of tests shown in honest posts to figure out which of these "things repeated on the internet" actually benefit the potency of weed.

Last grow i harvested great weed....I did not try the darkness period...this grow (in week 4 of flower) i will try the darkness period. I am sure to have better weed this harvest due to some major things i have learned about growing....but i will not really know if the darkness period contributed to anything..It will help with placebo, which is great. Im curious to see some results from a controlled experiment on the matter..

I don't blindly follow anyone, but I do pay attention to what I read, and results. However he came by the information, listening to Uncle Ben's advice has more than doubled my yield per plant, and I expect even better results in the future. Has your advice done the same for people? Just because he has a different opinion than you is no reason to attack him.
OP - I have tried harvesting both ways - with darkness and without - with no noticable difference.

Photosynthesis is what drives all activity within the plant... without it things come to a screeching halt... if you want to stress plant into believng the end of the world is coming shorten light cycle even more for a couple of days at end... but it is probably gonna make little appreciable difference...

If anything, THC will be reduced regarding production AND, this is the most important consideration, THC may be degraded into crap cannabanoids like CBN. I look at potency as a bell shaped curve with the good cannabanoids aka THC being produced from say....week 2 until the optimum window for harvest, which lasts about 2 weeks indoors. As time goes by, these goodies are degraded into "inferior" or "lesser" cannabanoids over time. Mel Frank has several graphs which show % via a timeline of this transition due to exposure to light, air, heat, and time, how those environmental factors chemically degrade certain cannabanoids, main one being affected are THC, as opposed to exposure under ideal conditions - cool/cold temps, absence of air, no light, etc. which tends to maintain the integrity of the goodies.

420 baby I had to register just to tell you to chill out. You have not been around long if you don't recognize Uncle Ben. He is an OG'er from way back. In regards to your question, there are many common ideas about how to squeeze a little more production out of your ladies. I would hesitate to call them all myths, but seriously, in your plants last days of life - it is done. The last weeks it will fatten up, but if you think it is gonna get bigger in 24 hours or product more trichomes, that is asking a lot. Kinda like sticking a nail through your stem. Sure you can do it. I wouldn't though. Seriously though, if you want them bigger, go back to your conditions, medium, lighting and health of ladies when you START flowering. And please stop calling out respected contributers like Uncle Ben. Ben, if you remember, MikeRoGrow, drop me a line and tell me where all the OG'ers are at!
