I have hated animals my entire life. Until last night.

Holy shit I gotta pay for it at the Shelter? I thought they would give them away, like, you know....kittens.
They only charge you because it costs them money to shelter the animal and feed it... and they spay and neuter and give it the shots for you.

I mean, it makes sense, but I just always had thought that animals at a shelter are free.

Good points. I think I'll be going to the Shelter to pick up a Tiger Tabby within the week, and I don't think I'll be declawing it.
wow so much cat talk on the marijuana board! :) i like it. anyways yeah tigers are sweet too, but i'm telling you, you can't go wrong with black cats. anyway yeah the chelter charges, but not a lot and it goes to a good cause. if you get a really young cat I suggest you pet it ll the time, everywhere. I have a cat I've had since he was a baby and we used to rub his paws ears everything and he is super lovable and very sweet. The litter box thing, you don't have to "change" it daily, but daily scooping is good if you wanna stay on your cats good side. maine coons are cool but the cost $$$ usually and they eat more :) .. if you need help let me know I have much cat knowledge.... good luck!

I go to the shelter and meet with all the kitties. We talk, and usually one picks me. The best cat I ever had choose me this way...went nuts trying to get to me...yelling "pick me, pick me" You may have an "instant" bond with one and then it won't matter what breed it is.
Just go with an open mind and know you can't bring them all home :-(

Did you get a tabby? Thanks for the rep!
Not yet. I like to wait a little bit before I make big purchases, to see if I still want it in a week or so. It's how I avoid impulse buying. :) But I would say that I am closer to buying one than before. Probably within this week.

I have owned cats..excuse me...lived with cats for about 30 years (no dogs). Just got another a week ago, which makes 3 currently. Here in southern Maine at the shelter I got her from, they are not charging for any cat over 6 mo old. This one is a little over two and wonderful. I gave them a donation anyway, which was my intention to begin with.

Please check out a shelter animal. You can often do that online before going in person.

Thanks! I think I'm going to just get a kitten though, so I can bond with it better. 6 months isn't still considered kitten, is it? I have no clue.

Here is the one I just picked up. She's 2 yrs, 3 mo old according to the shelter. Brought in as a stray. She's a small one as cats go really, so sorta kittenish lol. They aren't really out of kitten stage for the first year, imo.

Here are my 3, smallest ones name is Winston (she's a girl, probably about 3 pounds... weighs NOTHING... and she's 2 and 1/2 years old), next we have Beast.... found him outside when he was a kitten (well my girlfriend did) and raised him ever since.... and my biggest CAT! (if u can even consider it a cat still) his name is Trogdor! He's a big boy..... lol.. 22 pounds of cat!
