DWC Scrog Grow Extrema & El Monstre!

:leaf:Checked on them and it was 88 in the cab and the rez was holding strong with 65. If it was in my RM it would have been around 78 probably. I had to add a gallon of water so I brought it up to 67 by adding warm pH'd water to the rez. My PPM had also dropped from 1000 to 945. That was my first real drop so to me thats a good thing. It means they are feeding on it instead of staying a constant number. Now I just gotta get El Mon 2 roots to drop down into the water once again and I'll be good to go. I think I need more bubbles so gonna go grab me two more of the blue 10 in stones from Wally World. I sure am falling in love with the Extrema, I sure hope it's not a male. Lol! But that El Mon 1 sure does smell sweet when I get right on it. I go in there and sit for 30 minutes at a time about 3 times a day. I can just imagine when they have buds starting on them.
I might just move my bed in there. Lol! :weed:

:clap:I just subbed up to that thread. I have seen it before but never read thru it. If he is using the same kinda dual pumps that I was then they are rated around 8 LPM and the one I just got is rated at 70 LPM so if he has 8 of them then he is getting around 64 LPM from 8 pumps. Too much electriity and plugs for me. LOL. I do like his setup and the neatness of it. I will something a little more like it next go round. I definitely have to make a couple modifications to the cab next round. I wish I had the space to do some clones but that will have to wait. Since adding my two new stones last night I noticed a considerable more amount of bubbles. I have 2 more ports so if need be I can always throw 2 more stones in there. I feel a little more confident in things now. Extrema and El Mon 1 roots are starting to get new white growth and are starting to rope together and form stronger roots. Still waiting on El Mon 2 tho. She is getting there slowly. Extrema is prob gonna cover a majority of the screen which I don't mind but if its not a female then I will have to make some last minute adjustments and move the others around. If I knew they were all females then I could have a great yield by training the plants to the screen and ending up with a bunch of 1 oz buds. That is my idea with this grow. I don't want a bunch of popcorn buds, I want each plant to have 6-8 half to 1 oz buds.

That is my idea anyways. :weed:

What's up BluBerry !?
Glad to see another person converted to the Deep Water Cooler (DWC) Club !
I made the switch about 6 months ago thanks to BoomerBloomer57.
I see too that a month ago you changed up to BOLD GREEN fonts like me, so you might want to change colors so ppl don't get confused momentarily. LMAO
Your root problem is you have a 100L cooler without enough dissolved oxygen, so they're not thriving as much.
My 2 Igloo Marine coolers are half the size of yours and I run 1 - 4 port air pump (PetSmart $20) with 4 - 14 inch blue air stone bars (Wally World) in EACH !!
I started with 4 large 4 inch grey, round/pillar style air stones in 1 cooler and the air stone bars in the other and liked the blue bars better are harvest.
I also highly suggest keeping the bottoms of your net pots submerged the ENTIRE grow, IF you have enough oxygen in the water.
The air space between the pot bottoms and the nutrient solution cause more of the thicker, rope-like search roots and less of the fine, hair-like feeder roots.
Here's a tip:
Since your cooler is like Boomers (who runs like 6 of them), and them roots will take over the bottom of it if you veg good enough, I suggest mounting the flat air stone bars (14" or 16") on the side walls about half way up.
The roots won't cover them too much, if at all, and it's more usable dissolved oxygen.
DO is important with our cooler rez temps.
Maximum Oxygen is between 65F and 70F.

Hey there Flo. Glad to have you stop by +Rep. I was reading up on submerging the pots for the entire grow and it supposedly creates thicker feeder roots instead of ropey roots. My roots are plenty thick on them but just not long. In the past week they have really started looking better and getting whiter and longer, thicker roots. One of my problems is the hole that the El Mon 2 is in is a tad bit bigger than the other two holes so the net pot sits down a little farther in the water so I was not able to get the same water level for all pots. That and that I was top feeding all 3 of them twice a day. Prob overwatering them but I never seen droopage. I have since stopped top feeding except with the El Mon 2 til I get roots back down in the water. I like the idea of the stones on the wall as well. I may have to get 2 more stones and stick them on the wall. Lol, youre green is a little darker than mine so maybe it won't get confusing.

Went and got the stuff to make me a carbon filter. I still don't have my inline exhaust fan but I'm gonna order that very soon so that I will have it come flowering time. I'm not sure4 how well the filter will work but it has to be better than nothing. It is 14 inches long and 6 inches in diameter.
Materials:
2 cans of Carbon from Wal Mart $5.97 ea
Air Conditioner Filter (not pictured) $1.00
6/4 reducer $7.65
Hardware Cloth $8.34
6" End Cap $3.96
6" Starter Collar $3.87
1 pair of Leggs Trouser Socks $1.00
Zip Ties

Total: Approx. $40..About half the price of the online ones and I can say I made it myself. I put a cheap fan up to it and it was blowing thru the filters to the inside so I'm sure once I get a good fan hooked up to it then it should work like a champ. Fingers crossed. Lol!

Piece of cardboard that I taped to my light to make the light shine straight down on the plants. It is shiny on the other side. Works great!

Thanks Flo & Mel. After making the filter I think I should have used aluminum screen instead of the hardware cloth. Mostly because of the smaller holes in the screen than the cloth. I'll try it how it is though and if I need to make adjustments then I'll do so, but I think it should work fine. I'm satisefied with it tho. The screen is starting to fill out nicely. I'll give them another week and see how the look. I wanna flip the lights at this time but may give them another week, depending on what they look like.
Went to check my water and the little probe thing on my pH meter was broke, not sure if I can get another piece or if I gotta get a new meter. BS

I know for hannah meters they say to take it to your dealer for servicing. they sell replacement probes but might be cheaper to buy a new one. btw whered you buy your screen for your scrog at?

I bought the meter online from Hong Kong. I messaged them for replacement electrodes. Waiting to hear back. I made my screen from 1x1s and thin rope. They are 2x2.5 in holes.

Thanks Don! I think the filter turned out good. I am gonna put a filter or screen at the end of the duct so that it will catch the loose particles and dust from the carbon. No I never tried the h2o2 or the peroxide. I use small amounts of bleach instead of the h2o2. I would think the peroxide would fizz up and cause some build up in the rez. I could be wrong tho, I have read up on it and it says if gonna use peroxide then use the higher grade stuff instead of the low quality stuff from the store. Something to do with the extra additives in the store stuff. And as far as the bleach, that is my preference after reading around several places and seeing no negative feedback from using it, other than just someones opinion. I have seen several people that used the h2o2 and it didnt do what they wanted it to do so they used bleach and it killed the problem. Cheaper and works better or just as good at least. I may try it on my next grow.

Day 41 from sprout:
I went in there and cut off quite a few shade leaves from all 3 last night. Whew they looked thin, checked back this morning and they had filled back in nicely. All 3 now have most of their shoots into the screen. It is hard to count and tell but it looks like the 2 El Mons have about 10 shoots/colas and the Extrema has around 20. I'm sure they will grow a few more. My intention is to get quite a few big buds rather than a screen full of small buds. Small meaning under 7g buds. I will let them grow another week to fill out the screen a little more, then maybe another week to grow taller. Will wait and see then. I want them to be about 2-3 inches above the screen before I switch so that the shoots will grow taller (6-10) with bigger buds. That is my hopes anyway. This is my first time so I really don't know what to expect. :leaf:

I noticed on El Mon 2 that one of the fan leaves is curling upward on the edges. This is the plant that does not have roots in the water but is very healthy looking otherwise. I currently do not have any Cal-Mag but can get some if that is my problem. I could cut the leaf off but that won't fix the issue if there is one.

I tried to take a picture of the curled leaf, but it didn't turn out good. I did have a couple that turned out good tho. As you can tell from the pics which one is the Extrema. I sure hope it's not a male cuz it's so pretty and big. The one to the right is El Mon 2, even with no roots touching the water it is still healthy looking. They are coming back tho. :leaf:
