Yes. Then thrown under a 400 watt hps. I have used many types of MH and flourescents of all types including T5's ($$$) and they all work.

What would you recommend during vegging stage... CFL lights or MH light?

ohsooogood, im with u bud, i dont like to argue or say my method is better, to each his own is my motto....i used the RIU forum and learned a great deal so im just tryna give back,.....def research research research then make a deccision....growing is a neverending cycle of trial and error...youll see what u like for urself as u see results in whatever u do my man...heres some pics of mine, small cabinet grow, being stealth isnt too much of an issue since i grow for medical purposes legally but i admit i should have gotten the 1 size bigger cabinet,lol...these were the ladies at like 3 weeks veg....blue venom, skywalker og kush, and diablo og kush....View attachment 1553163pic at early flowering...the skywalker og, LSTd early on and then stopped and let it do its thing...baby blue venom nugs @ 3 weeks flower...

3 week veg CFL vs MH cost wise

CFL
1st week 2 x 23w (7*20*.046*.15) = $0.96
2nd week 4x 23w (7*20*.092*.15) = $1.93
3rd week 10x 23w (7*20*.23*.15) = $4.83
Total for 3 week veg = $7.75

400w MH
Weeks 1 - 3 (21*20*.4*.15) = $25.20

600w MH
Weeks 1-3 (21*20*.6*.15) = $37.80

At 15 cents per kWh there is a bit of a difference in pricing. If you were only being charged 8 cents/kWh like in some parts of the country you might as well just run the 400w.

You don't wanna veg. babies, especially clones and seedlings under a 600......just my thought. CFL's are fine! The more CFLs the better, but only a few are necessary. It's just a weed. You can spend A LOT of money and buy the newest stuff on the market and have digital ph testers and this and that.....certain temp's are best of course...but it is a weed and it will grow with very little help.

its very easy to calculate the power usage, locate ur last utility bill, see how much u are charged per kilowatt hour, a kilowatt hour is the price ur charged for using 1000 watts per every hour, then calculate a 600 watt light bulb and factor in a little for the ballast usage, its barely fuckin anything, and if ur only vegging 18/6 or 20/4 u save even more. i vegged 24/0 on my last run and the WHOLE entire month was so cheap i cant even remember, look into it..i think i get charged 15 cents a kilowatt hour, so whats that, 7 cents an hour, i dont care how much cfls cost, 7 cents an hour aint shit for the growth i seen with mine

I've never used just perlite but this is how you calculate energy costs.

days x hours per day x power usage in kW (a 600 would be 0.6) x energy cost in price per kWh.

I'm charged $0.12/kWh so this is what it looks like for me for 8 weeks of flowering. 56*12*0.6*0.12 = $48.384

You may also want to take into account your fan and the actual pull of your ballast - most 600's pull around 660.

Yea doesnt give it to me on the bill.. Tells me how many kilowatt hours are being used and then it just breaks it down into sub-categories. Lol ive looked over and read it like 10 times
