Tap water works for a lot of people, but I would advise testing it. I screwed up 1.5 grows before figuring out my water was way too hard. I now use distilled, which is kind of a bitch but i don't have a choice until I move. You can get those 5 in 1 aquarium test strips for cheap. I would just test your water before you have a potential PH or calcium lockout issue. If your tap is in range, then you will probably be ok. The only bitch I have about distilled is that you will have to add Cal-mag and watch your plants..also because it is not buffered every time I add nutes I have to add PH up as well.

RO is for the people who want to correct the little things. Its not always a straight pitch. Its mostly a curve. So do everything you can to make the guess work gone.
That is the best explanation I have ever seen on this topic which is by the way one of the more controversial. This and Molasses

we'll obviously your a TROLL and never grown before seeing that you thought my pics were CFL grows kinda gave it away..u cant be a grower and think that was grown with a cfl so YUP i reported you..i have no problem with reporting trolls who come on this site and claim to grow but there actually just about to start there first grow like yourself and just arguing with people lol enjoy that infraction

add half Tap and half Distilled..i use to do that so i wouldn't have to add cal mag..now i use half RO and half Tap cuz it's cheaper to buy RO water rather then distilled

Would you please explain the theory behind such an advanced move like using half tap and half distilled water besides you doing it? I am thinking of using the technique and would like to know more on WHY it would be better. Thanks man

Your words speak for themselves..u said i use CFL's lol hahahaha i've never grown with JUST a CFL not even in veg lol ur a joke..and those are UVB's to by the way genius..you just showed how un-experienced you are

UVB bulbs come in CFL and Mercury Vapor. Do you know how long you are supposed to run the UVB bulb? Or even what nm it puts out?

I have a tendency to do this towards the end of flower during the flush...but it's too hard for me to be consistent for the whole grow doing this. Plus...my water is realllly bad.

my water is bad to..about 550ppm-600ppm..mixing half allows you to add more nutrient solution so your ppms dont go to high

The reason I do it during flush is because when I add nutes to distilled I can gradually bring it up with PH up; however, during flush if you add just a few drops of PH UP to distilled with no buffers and no other nutes...it swings all over and is hard to get a read on. Distilled is sometimes a little on the low side of PH. So I mix the distilled with my bad water at the end. I do this a little in the beggining as well. After about 2-3 weeks when nutes come into play, I've found the less variables the better, but to each their own

there is no SUPPOSE TO when using uvb unless you just go by what u read..its like 280nm though and i dont even have that much output..even though i think you a troll and a noob who likes to steal threads and argue, i'll still bring u up on game..check out this video if you wanna learn about UVB >> http://youtu.be/lfiI78uN3Ks

Yup that's just another reason to add tap to distilled water..it's easier to get a steady PH reading

So I dont know what this may tell any of you... but my tap water is at 7.9 ph.... i need to get a ppm meter...
Yeah it tells me your Ph is 7.9 Your PPM could be zero and the only way to tell is the ol PPM meter. If your water ends up being under 500 you should be able to use it for growing making RO and Distilled pointless.

Ya, thats what I figured... I'll be getting one very soon then... How much did you pay for yours??
