I need to ask you and FDD on what Kiln and Torches are decent.. you could make me a LIST of starting Gear..

Paragon Bluebird XL or F-130 Digital, or AIM 99 for the kiln. For the Torch, GTT Lynx is the one I'd start with. It's the same "inner" torch as is on my orange Mirage, the mirage just has additional ports around the "Lynx" center fire for more Oooomph. The inner fire, aka the Lynx, is what I use about 90% of the time when making stuff. The Lynx should run you around $350-$450. If you can swing $1100, get a GTT PHantom. If you can swing $1800, get the Mirage like fdd and I have.

how often do you use your roller?

i just ordered a cheap one. i wanted to try one out before i throw down 200 dollars.

But, now that I do vac stacks, I use it *every* vac stack and will probably be buying another one so I can do bigger stacks and roll it from both sides at once.

With YOUR Mirage base (the custom acid one) the height on the rollers wont bother you. For a factory Mirage base, you'll want to put it on a cinder block or something because the rollers are too tall otherwise. They do remove from the base if you want to bench mount them, which is neat I guess.

Hey guys whats up with that UV/glow in the dark glass?

I see it on some very expensive pieces ( i saw like 8 uv glass horns on like a $600 oiler)

Why don't more people use it? Is there a downside to it? I think it looks bad ass but I've never seen it in person!

My budget will be around 3-4k to start. that wont be until late october around my B day though..

The "original" UV glass was made with uranium. It'll register on a geiger counter. That wasnt made after the 1960's or so, and because of that it's about $300/lb, and hard as shit to find. There's other glow glass, made by Borostix and some other companies. It's also expensive, around $100-$150 a pound last time I checked.....

I made my own rollers out of bearrings from a skateboard. Welded a stand. Works awesome ..

its used to seal boro to metals if you sleave it in clear over jet black its really cool. retains all of its glow properties and looks greenish black. doesnt mix all that well for iso.. and it looses a lot of its glow effect if you hit it with the flame directly. it then takes on a strange grey color. its also called vasaline glass. on the 1000xi setting on my gieger counter it pegs out whenever the probe is in the tube.. its neat stuff, just sleeve it and anneal it at 1150 youl be just fine.

lol very true.. im rocking a nortel.. vac stacks are to big for me. however i borrow a big roller everytime i need to make a bong. 50 is a bit massive in my little hands.

and a side note aim has ane awesome guillotine for 610 analog, 938 digi... the torch of my dreams is a carlisle cc.. centerfire is the only way.

If they are made from the real Uranium glass, yep! Radioactive decay actually. The physicist in me understands that there is nothing "radio" "active" or "decaying" about radioactive decay though. It would never decompose completely. After one half-life in years, you have 1/2 left. After two half-lives, you have 1/4. After three half-lives, 1/8. Presumably after enough half-lives, you have two atoms left. Maybe in one more half-life, one atom decays. But the last atom might never decay, no matter how much time passes after that. After all, that one atom has lasted for a kajillion years. So, in theory still, it'd lose some glow over a few thousand years, and eventually turn into lead.

Decay just refers to where parts of the uranium shift electrons/protons because of instabilities on the way electrons are organized around the nucleus.

i always found the thought of glow-in-the-dark glass kinda silly. unless you are 12.

i can't remember the last time i smoked in a room dark enough to see glow-in-the-dark anything. and you still need to hold it up to a light and then cup your hands over it to see it. and then it's like "yep, it glows".

i call "gimmick" to increase sales.

I agree -- I've got a few sticks of glow glass and a few packets of the glow glass frit powder. Both look stupid, very finicky in the flame (boils!). If I owned a night club, I'd have a 100% uranium bong sitting on my office desk in the center of teh club with all the ladies dancing around it.

I love the Green Lantern. Having just the bowl glow in the dark, maybe even lines at the top of the bowl to create a GL symbol, would be awesome. The lighter would help it glow when it lights the bowl at least haha.

Sorry if I'm a lurker Kitty, I won't be able to get glass equipment for some time. I obviously don't want to miss out on all the pretty artwork though. :}
