We tried to form a union but they brought in union busters and had an entire department dedicated to stopping us in our tracks. There was a lot of intimidation and write-ups involved and people backed off from forming a union. Then the business shut down in New Mexico and outsourced.

the points system is pretty much standard in my neck of the woods for larger employers.

besides, who would EVER think of abusing sick leave....;)
So how does one get the job of Corporate Shill? Do you have to get the mark of Cain or just a lot of ass kissing? (that would explain the brown ring)

This was a major corporation and THEY is management. Not a single manager or supervisor was local. They were all from California or back east. We formed committees, study groups, and meetings with management. Only to end up having our supervisors place extra work on those who attended the meetings and set impossible goals and guidelines. It got so bad that some employees just up and left. We had one lady that won awards for her work excellence end up bursting in to tears and running out the door. She was there for 12 years.

Last i checked employee's had legal rights. They can tell you to come in and work all they like, but if you're "too sick to work" and have sick leave available, there's fuck all they can do to you other than get stroppy. They can't fire you for it becaue again, employees have legal rights.
and what do you do in the mean time, collect unemployment? no cause a fired employee has to appeal for unemployment, you see when people infringe on your rights you have to go through a process that is costly and time consuming, ever hired a lawyer?

why would you CHOSE to work for a company that treats it's employees this way?
and what other job is there to do? you need a job to get grow equip, you need a job to start any money making venture that is not a complete scam, and you need a job to earn a pension or save for that day when you just cant get out there and work the fields.

of course we are all slaves, we have developed an environment where we work for the benefit of persons that are not actually people, corporations are the new slave drivers operated by hidden people.

you could build high quality furniture in your garage and sell it on an open market.

just one idea. i have 100's if you want to hear them.

or you can continue to insist the only way to live is to sell out to a corp.

i'm not buying any of it, for a minute.

We're talking about nowhere fucking New Mexico. It was one of the few businesses that actually offered a living wage and health insurance. We are one of the poorest states in the nation and jobs are few and far between in a GOOD economy. People put up with a lot when they have few options.

once again first you have to own a garage, second you have to own tools, third you need wood, and im sure all of your ideas require some kind of initial investment and therefore initial risk, how many people will pay you enough to live on off your furniture, rather than buy at ikea

i'm sorry you feel this way. :(
come on fdd, we all agree with you that working for yourself is the best way to live, but getting to that point is tough, I am not trying to be argumentative or give excuses but listing the many hurdles is of course gonna come out like a bunch of lame excuses for not just doing ....something, but thats why im almost 30 and going back to school so hopefully I can be my own boss and live more comfortably ....someday
