I'm not bothered by spiders unless I all of a sudden realize that one is resting on my chest while I've been chillin... then I freak a little... ever since a friend and I tried everything to kill a huge spider one day and failed I leave them alone cause some of them are tougher than you can imagine, sprayed it, bashed the shit out of it with fire pokers and when we thought it was dead threw it in the fire... The fucker ran out of the fire place after a few seconds, a little ball of flames with 5 legs... the fire went out and it walked out the room...

It is most assuredly NOT a brown recluse nor a black widow. Widows make cob webs in holes, slots, under ledges, always near a close by hiding area (close like a few inches) - they don't spin circular webs out in the open.

Ugly black widow web -

MedicalMaryJane - Does it come out during the day? It might not be sitting in the middle of its web, but is it visible on a leaf or stem where the web attaches? In the picture it looked as if it was reweaving its web which is a nightly task for most diurnally hunting orb weavers (by hunt I mean sit and ambush).
I'm certainly no arachnid expert, the only webs I have ever seen that large were in Florida. And the spiders would sit dead center and were HUGE. Much larger than a widow, tarantula sized but sort of a mottled black and brown color. I think they were banana spiders.

i have a relative in the boonies that has a serious problem with wolf spiders...they're very dark colored and HUGE...you'll be sitting there and think you see a mouse out of the corner of your eye...you look closer and it's a friggin SPIDER. They were all like the size of a silver dollar. Would see them coming into rooms, think it was a mouse. I never got bit but I made my bed there one day and found one dead under my pillow. And i checked out a big one that was dead..checked out their fangs...HUGE dude. I used tweezers and tapped the fangs and it was like an audible "ting ting ting"

yeah that one has a rainbow. grafton isn't so pretty. i don't think his front legs are long like that either. he does have a big body and a tiny head though lol.

i like your widow but i'd be scared it would get lose and bite me.

I didn't read through the entire thread but I'm pretty sure someone has already explained to you that isn't a Black Widow or Recluse. Black Widows and Brown Recluse spiders aren't orb weavers. Their webs are a just a mish mash of strands attached to anything not moving in the vicinity. Once you see a Black Widow web you'll never forget it. That looks like an ordinary garden variety spider. :p

i still worry it is poisonous. it looks like a BRoWN widow. i did some more looking and that's the closest looking spider. i need to get a better pic so you experts can ID.
To me it looks like a crab spider. I can't find a good match on the web (uuhhh... :dunce:) but they weave orbs and can look spectacular creepy. They're harmless though.

When I was seven, I walked through a crab spider's web. (Not on purpose.) I felt a nip on my cheek ... and was terrified that my face would fall off, or worse. But it was no worse than a mosquito bite, really, even if it took a month to heal. cn

there is a huge spider in a huge web outside of my place. I have seen it a few times but it doesn't live in the web, it lives in the tree. It goes into the web to eat. would you kill it if you had the opportunity?

this is its web. i can never get a pic of the spider bc he hides. i am pretty sure it's a black widow. the thought of it living out there makes me uneasy...

having been around mosquitos, i prefer spiders around, having been around a shit load of flies, i prefer having spiders around.

spiders dont bother people and that one looks like its doing a fine job of pestcontrol.

(though id understand any hesitation at having toddlers around black widows lol)
