Al right guys, I'm having some difficulty on deciding how best to mount my lights in the grow box.

My idea was to build a moveable light array, one that I can lower and raise when needed ;)

I'm going to build a frame out of some 3/4" PVC tubing (where all the wires will be hidden) and hook up 4 23 W CFLs on it.

But I'm having a hard time deciding what arrangement to use.....So I thought you guys could provide me with the needed input. :D

Here is a Pic with all the possible variations, which one do you think will give the most even light distribution. :?:

Keep in mind that the whole thing is 1 x 1 Feet.

Yeah, you're right about light distru. But I'm also trying to avoid having the centre to be a scorching heat spot ^^ So I think, D might be the best option, as it also prevents any corners not getting any light....

Well, let's see what others might have to add.

nice box going there, i have one the same size for vegging. the only problem is the heat, gotta get plenty of fresh air in there, cant wait to see them babies grow!

I'm deff gona have something of a heat issue no matter how i put these babies in, 4 lamps in that small space, 3 inches close to the plants...right now I have 70F in there, I don't want it to go more than 78F...so I'm thinking of adding a fan to pull the air through the lamps and upwards.

Al right folks, back with another growth update, I discovered some interesting things when watering my baby this morning;

Second pair of true leaves have begun forming:
DSC00400.JPGDSC00401.JPGDSC00402.JPG

How does she look???? (The first pic, the colour is off cos I used Flash - on)

And another interesting discovery....
DSC00403.JPG

As you can see in the pic, the tap root has emerged all the way to the bottom
:-P

Does that mean it's transplanting time already
:?: (Think it might be too early, I'm sure she isn't root-bound yet....But what do you think?)

Thanks for watching ^^

So, I have decided to go with the following set-up;

Light array plus Extraction fan.jpg

In summary, I'm going to offset the lights in order not to create a heat spot and to evenly distribute the lights over the canopy. The array will be built using 3/4 inch plastic tubing, The wires will go into the tubes (cos my shit is neat^^), I will also place a hood on top of the frame, where I will mount an 80mm PC case fan to extract the hot air from between the lamps and up through the hood, to the top of the chamber, where another 120mm PC case fan (With carbon filter - eventually) will be taking it out of the box.

Well let's get to work on building the frame ^^

Not a perfect square, but it will do nicely :bigjoint:

Now that this is out of the way, next is the tricky part of inserting the electric cable and mounting the 4 bulbs in parallel //

So stay tuned

I noticed today that the humidity of the air in the grow box is 62%....Thinking that this might be a bit high for cannabis, I went looking in Google.

I found the following extract from Wikibooks:

[h=4]Broad Leaves with Edges Curled Down[/h]This is a sign of excessive humidity. This usually won't harm the plant but less than optimal conditions result in a less than optimal growth and harvest. The width of the leaf is also determined by genetics so broad leaves alone are not a sure indicator of whether your environment is too humid.
And I noticed that this is the exact case for my young plant; Broad leaf, pointing up towards the light, but the edge at the very end is sharply curled down.

The RH in the room where the box is located used to be 45 - 50%, I recently got a fish tank and I think it's giving off some humidity due to it being uncovered.

The RH in the grow box is 59 - 62%, I'm thinking it's the water evaporating from the soil that is raising it up like that.

So - Quick Fix:

I cut out a small disk out of mylar that I'm going to use to cover the pot with at soil level.
I'm also going to run my AC on Dehumidifier mode until I can save up enough money for a closet dehumidifier.

Will see how the situation develops over the next couple of days.

Thought I would post that in case anyone reading this encounters the same problems.

Happy Growing ya'all!

Feb 4 - Day 9 - Seedling Phase:

Just thought I'd also throw in a couple of growth pics, nothing new going on on the top, I bet all the action is happening downstairs ;)

Watered with 100ml PH 5.8 Water, Temp stable at 69F, 58% RH.

Added a paper clip to hold the seedling back straighter ^^

Go baby, GROW! :leaf:
hei Gun, you are measuring the quantity of the water that you are giving to your plant. I was doing the same at my beginning but as I learned after it is a big mistake that can lead to big problems. Now every time I am watering I am giving as much as it's starting to flow from the bottom. In this manner the soil is refreshing and it's refreshing the oxygen as well + it will prevent Ca locking on the roots.
All the best and I really like your talent for building cabins!

Yeah I think you nailed it on the head right here man, gonna stop playing scientist and start reading my plant a bit more :) ^^

Hoping I can maybe one day build these for a living...ahh... wishful thinking....

Did some more work on the light array...mainly connecting the light sockets to the main wire...took me a while to get it right.
At first I wanted to run my wire inside the pVC tube but....that turned out to be a nightmare, so I decided to run it alongside it....easier that way, will keep it neat with zip ties.

DSC00412.JPGDSC00413.JPG

Still got to mount the top hood and install the fan and this baby is ready to rock.

Hopefully I will have time to finish the grow cab over the next couple of days....I don't like set backs but my time table is getting hard to follow....

Dude, your plant looks awsome, dont worry too much about the first set of leaves, in my cupboard, they always turn yellowish due to the heat no matter what i do, then the next pair grows out and the plant starts its veg stage and theyre alright after that. good looking setup though, looks neat and slick. keep it up! im interested to learn from your hydro experience as im thinking of trying it for the first time soon. although she looks healthy to me, u might want to consider a minute dose of high N fertilizer but dont take my word for it, i havent tried hydro before.

they are looking great GunRunneR, nice and healthy. Mine were lime green too at the start, then they darkened up ... could be just the strain.

Oh, thanks guys, that's reassuring ^^

The Lime green light is from the camera, they are a bit darker than that.

So far I haven't been giving them any nutes at all, just 5.8 Water.

When can I start feeding?
