A Tale of The Tape HPA vs 21st Century Flood and Drain

It seems most growers nowadays "tune" their nutes to as much as possible, just short of burning them. I have a different opinion and try to use as little as possible just short of any deficiencies. I think high ppms slow down growth and cause lockouts and the plant can only use what it can use... I think you run a good ppm level pet- the plants are telling us so.
Agreed. Most deficiencies are lockouts in disguise. And we know that plants do not require more than 30 ppms of P in veg max 50 in flower, AND by over ppming the increased P can cause premature sexing, and mos def causes lockout, especially in recycle hydro systems.

Like you, I would rather keep em on the hungry side.

Subbed up PF and looking forward to it. I am planing on making the transition to hydro when I finish the Fire OG's I have going right now but I havent decided on what type of hydro yet. I have it "narrowed" down to DWC, RDWC, LP Aero/NFT or Ebb and Flow thought Ebb and Flow is prolly not going to happen. Soil just isnt doing what I want it to and I dont like the feeling of no control over my grow if that makes sence. Figure watching your grow and a few others that I have narrowed down will help me make my final decision. Also I am planing on going Dyna Grow for my nutes, do you have any experance with their line up brother? Sorry if I should have asked here if you prefer to answer in my journal I fully undersand.

Here we go offtopic again (sorry pf) but I just wanted to leave my input that Dyna-gro rocks... Check out Homebrewer's journals here on riu- all u need to know...

Thanks TB, Good Nutrient 411. Are you using it for AA/HPA? I just went to their site; Grow is 7-9-5 WTF? Makes no sense for mj unless you are growing AFs, and even then way too much P.

I am looking for a dry mix to replace DM ONE which is ~ $25/5l but due to shipping, it's like >$35/5L.

I have a top quality RO (<10ppm) + I energize my water using a Vortex Water Magnetizer www.QuantumBalancing.com before adding nutes. Shhhh, don't tell anybody ;)
.

I came across this a year or so back, but since they are in EU I didn't pull the trigger. http://www.formulaflora.com/home.php IMHO, on paper, this is a much better option than Dyna-Gro + it's a powder

Since running out of DM Gold ADD.27 about 2 weeks ago, my rezs have never been so clean, plus, my mist heads and filters no longer get clogged, let alone every 5 days when I was using ADD.27. Still using up the rest of my DM Gold A & B
with 5L of ONE at the ready, which is easily a year's supply for me

In hydro, dyna is the best in my book... forget worrying about the numbers in the formula, I admit it's not exactly perfect by the texts, but the results will speak for themselves. It is even cleaner than DM gold, and definitely better results as I personally had used both. If you are serious about trying, read Homebrewer's threads for photo inspiration, and tips and feeding levels- he also feeds very low and has amazing results...

I have yet to use it in aero however, because I am trying to eliminate as many variables and the Canna substra has a good track record for aero... I will be trying dyna next in aero/AA...

I have read through at least 2 of HB's journals and it is why I am considering DG? Just wanted to ask some other folks who have given me advice off and on since I joined RIU for their opinion and experiance before I make the plunge.

PF sorry for going off topic, wont happen anymore and thanks for being gracious about the questions and what not.

TB would love to continue a DG discussion but we shouldnt do it on PF's journal. Feel free to hop over to mine if you want to talk more about DG as I am very interested.

Ima wait for Mikey to try it. As I mentioned I have a good year supply of DM ONE

I tried searching for Homebrew but the Search engine feature is not working

I noted this on pge 11 #101:

so, I cut down the amount of grow formula that I was using with the bloom and by doing so, I'm supplying the plants with more phosphorus than possibly needed. This could also be a culprit. Maybe the fix here isn't to dial back, but to go back to my 1/3 grow, 2/3 bloom ratio?

In post #105 Mazar makes a good point (HB not using a TDS meter- wtf?)

Sorry guys, I'll be stickin with DM ONE, which has the right ratios for grow, then I simply add DM Potash + (PK) to spark a bit of budding, but you don't need much. Mostly just increase the ppms of ONE during flower would do it

lol, you pulled out a post from his first weeks of flower in his very first attempt with it, if you had read on you would have gotten a different picture, and he did get a meter, he'd just been using his custom GH blend for so long he knew it without needing one and just read his plants... The grow formula is fine, he just finds, like alot of us that adding a bit of nitrogen to the flowering nute is a good thing to keep them green. It's okay though PF, nothing is for everyone and I get nothing out of whether you try it or not. Perhaps your energy stone creates different needs for the plants as it maximizes their potential, it's a variable for sure... Your plants look the picture of health, so why change anything...

Also, did you know Dutchmaster is really Australian and the guy who heads it up has been in prison before for making false claims and being a scam artist using paclobutrazol? Not that it has any bearing on their nutes now, I just found it interesting to know when I was trying them out too...

TB yes I am aware that they are from Oz. I came within a wisker of going to jail for a crime I did not commit, so I give that a grain of salt. The only thing that saved me was a customer was willing to testify that I was with him at the time, which I probably was anyway.

TL
turned me onto eshines new Aqua Washer series. 2 emails to them trying to get pricing/ info on the horticulture equivalent was finally answered- not making them for horticuture. Seems CRAZY to me
. Now what?

It's been a non-stop morning. Since I am cutting timer back i needed to put 2 more bulbs in to make up for the loss, so I was anxious to finish the repair. I didn't have any help, and needed to take my BB down to install the new tombstone.

Since I had the light out of my DIY grow 'tent', I took the plants out of the flood tote and cleaned out ~ a 1/8 cup of lava rock/hydroton particles that were collecting in the bottom, I was concerned they might clog the 3/8 drain plug.

Below are today's updates.

Nice little bushes right? Wait for it...

I've been thinking about reconfiguring my mist heads. Been using doubles, one each on the short sides firing into the middle. I have noticed only parts of the roots have new growth, meaning the coverage is not adequate, and could a reason for not getting root hairs. I tried to compensate by rotating the plants 180^s a couple times a day to no avail, so...

I am going to replace the 2 doubles with singles, PLUS, add a third single in the middle of the long wall.
