When can the USA afford Peace?

I was wondering if the USA could afford Peace with the world or if the USA is doomed to pay for war forever?

If we cannot get to Peace will we not be destroyed at some point. Some point that might be from the inside out?

We are now hearing from Presidential Hopefuls that we have to sacrifice benefits for our citizens so we can spend more on war. I wonder where that will end?

If War is more important than say Medicare won't we have to keep cutting it and everything else to spend for War?

What do you think?

Can the USA ever afford Peace? Is our "War Debt" in this world so much now that we are struggling just to pay the "War Interest" never mind repaying the Principle and getting to Peace?

when Jihadism is defeated.....................

lol when a jihadist can be something as simple as a disgruntled mulsim with an ak47 your never going to defeat that

considering the us army spends hundreds of billions of dollars against these jihadists i'd say they are kicking your arse

you might need a new perspective on this one ;)

my views are narrow.

This much I know:
It would be exponentially more than 200 million free tax dollars if it were possable.

Bribery does not solve the problem.
Buying friends obviously does not work either.
Freedom has a cost.

that is all

there has always been a cop..................Rome.............Britain............and now, the USA. you wouldn't wanna live in a World without one.

Ernst I think you had better worry about the tax cuts coming on 1/1/2013. But it want be much longer before Iran has nukes, the middle east will be on fire and thin comes the question fight or die.

Peace and prosperity go hand in hand. Its so hard for those who are making the war money to let it go though.

As long as man exist, there will be war....peace has been and always be temporary......if it actually exist.....

That's no reason to not search for solutions. It used to be common knowledge that the earth was flat and the universe revolved around it.

If the biggest, bad ass on the block was less of a bully and more of a shining example of liberty and respect for others, maybe there would be more peace.

edits in italics, no more posting while drunk.

I try to be optimistic about things in life and in no way am I saying to stop striving, but be realistic..... don't hold hold your breath....people are just too greedy.....I wish that wasn't the case....but it is.....has been and seems like it will be as long as humans are being

There has always been war and rumors of war. We can't afford the Peace offered by our Enemies. That's the point. We knock them down and then build trading partners. We are almost done. The Caliphate is the last roadblock to world peace.

Why? In Sharia, there is no world trade. World trade dependency is their weapon against us. China and Russia, and Europe are already there. We have world peace, by economic competition. Nash Equilibrium. Make the bigger pie. Compete with the Resources and Research.

World Peace = Too much to lose in the industrialized world. We have that. More peace per capita than the world has ever seen. My Pastun friend who was raised there says most of Pakistan doesn't even really know what a nuke is. Just a bigger bomb to them. They ache to use it on us. They think the horror of it is just US lies.

america is not an emperialist nation, we need to understand that fact, we are a republic. stop policing the world with soldiers, satellite and drones can work just fine, as do informants and snitches. less occupation and bloodshed, more spec ops missions and one shot one kill's like what happened with osama.

I take serious issue here. America is indeed an imperialist nation, without a doubt. The only difference between us and more ancient countries or nation states or city states for that matter is that our anexation of other countries is done economicly and culturaly. We absorb other countries buy subsuming them with our mass produced, mass exported culture of coke and pepsi, housewifes of Atlanta, rap, KFC and mcdonalds. Of course if the nation in question balks, we apply sanctions and other pressures to ensure that all citizens in all countries are exposed to our "preferences". Just because we don't often use guns doesn't mean our methods aren't violent.

Rob Roy will agree with me I am certain. The difference between us here is that he is very opposed to this incursion and I am only mildly so.

You mean to tell me that we can't just send them a Bible (signed by Ronald Reagan of course), a cake (in the shape of a key and a Colt pistol), and maybe even add a 12 pack of coca-cola (the easy fit refrigerator style of course) and everything will be just fine?

On a serious note- To the OP, great thread!!

Historically almost all wars can be traced to religion. It's amazing when you really take a second to think about it, isn't it? Not that they were caused by religion- But that religion is supposed to be peaceful, full of harmony and about helping others by most accounts.

As religion has been on the decline, thank god (funny from an agnostic like myself), we have seen wars start from other reasons- not all of course. These reasons are numerous and in my opinion mostly corrupt and evil.

Eisenhower's famous warning of the military industrial complex seems to be haunting America pretty much since that farewell speech. That along with buckley v. valeo, citizens united, and others seem to multiply the threat of the military industrial complex. It all comes down to the same old thing every time, that is: Money in politics. We need campaign finance reform, restructuring of primaries, stopping the revolving door of politicians and lobbyist, ect., ect.

Or we could do this: Call for a Constitutional Convention to get money out of politics. WOLF-PAC That's right guys, WWW.WOLF-PAC.COM

Its those damn Obama Drones. They keep coming back with their Marxist class warfare propaganda.
Then everybody starts hating eachother; Its bullsh*t.

Clap trap! you can only police a society. There is no world society. Was the US Calvary, "policing" Indian Country? Hell no, it was War. We are policing ourselves. The world can and will go to hell. We are not trying to save the world or the Planet. We are trying to protect ourselves from a bunch of Sharia-facists loons, at present. And our Trading Partner/Enemies are very amused. In WW2 we let fascism get the jump on us. Now it has a freedom of religion cloak. Beware.

So, folks, please just seriously stop with the Ideology. Boots on the Ground is very necessary as is lawful killing in War. And we have 100s of Thousands of Boots abroad, but not for Policing. You have this so wrong. You are here because we are strong warriors. Believe me, Policing is the least of our worries. Not policing, we are warring in Defense of the Homeland. From Drones and Space, so you and your kids may not get blown to bit. That is it. Anything more is mind control Ideology and social tinkering.
