Yep, fear and control. Christianity is the only religion to feature HELL. And that is only in the last 1500 years. The last Pope said there was no Hell. This Pope says there is. Such expert theologians!

And they had to make up a Bible and refer to Hell in it. Then one can conqueror the ignorance populace with fear and make up a false, nebulous choice for salvation. From What????

My friend's wife is born again. So cultish with a fatalist approach that is not Christian, to me. IAC, she God Damns him every morning with. "Jesus can save you today! "

Make it all up to threaten damnation on the ignorant and un-fortunate. Human pride, human stupidity.

Scaring people into following the church. A lot of old people go to church out of fear, whether it be fear of death, or fear of going to hell.

Oh but it doesnt matter if you sin or not. Because if you bought an indulgence, you get to go to heaven!

the concept of hell is horrific, just the very thought is truly mind-boggling. that a supreme being would send a being into an endless experience of pure torture. what could someone possibly do in their 100 something year existence to deserve such punishment. just doesn't sound logical to me.

i agree it does'nt make sense, myself the thought of hell has never brothered me

To punish those of us who do things like have sex before marriage.. ADULTERY!! Sickening... It trully is.

And remember, even if you think of having sex with a woman that you're not married too, you've already commited adultery in your mind.. So you're gonna burn in hell.

Hell acts as a great excuse to evangelize. I think the average religious person does not fear hell because they feel they are right with god. They do however fear for your soul which gives them justification for pushing beliefs on you even when you resist.

I like to think back. A greasy monk. The village Gossip. Confession, snitch, control. The Gossip gets the excuse of Saving the Sinners. The monk get the thrill of threat.

Mother Church knows every detail to use as Power. The Church understands Fear, like no other organization. Mortal Fear of the Expert from Afar. All villages in Europe were modeled this way for 1000 years. So, Hell is the only and yet, very ingrained, Power of Christianity.

I really don't understand Christianity. I mean even the moral side of it is just, self explanatory. If you go around being cynical and or murdering people, you probably feel pretty negative. If you don't then your an asshole.
Like I said before a lot of people go to church out of straight fear. They don't want to go to hell. And for some reason, so many people actually participate in church, that your kind of a minority for not going. Which makes some people second doubt themselves.

I could see going to church for something to do. I'd imagine you get bored while your old with nothing to do, and it would make you feel part of something. I believe a lot of older people go for that reason too.

The fact that indulgences existed is what made me suspicious. We learned that in like middle school and ever since then, I've had very high doubts of Christianity's belief system. If you give the church money, you go to heaven? How convenient!! The church in ancient times was after power and money. That is it. The followers being mere pawns. I remember reading something about them torturing galileo also, forcing him to say that his beliefs of astronomy were wrong. Then he was placed under house arrest for the rest of his life.

Nowadays its a lot more reasonable.. The church actually benefits the community. But still a lot of people preach and preach it and do not think for themselves what so ever.

Another example I think of sometimes is the whole virgin Mary thing. It was said that Jesus was put into her, without her having sex. Obviously. But back then how could they tell that someone had never had sex? The only way would be to see if the hymen was broken. Which sometimes it breaks without even having sex. I could see a bunch of people huddling around her making stories like 'SHE HAS THE GOD CHILD, SHE IS A VIRGIN SHE HAS NO HYMEN!'. And then her being like.. 'Yeah, yes. Yes!'

I don't know, I'm not saying I'm completely against it. Or that I'm completely right. I just don't buy it.

Fear of death bro, nobody wants to accept death... if you try to tell them they could possibly be wrong about their ideas of an afterlife... the fear of death sets back in, instead of accepting it, they lash out and try to make YOU fear death.

Bob- "There might not be a heaven or hell, you could be wrong."

Sally- "YOU'RE GOING TO HELL!"

as soon as your born you start dying. we should all welcome death not fear it. not that i want to die. i guess the fear is not knowing when or how it will happen. painful or painless.

you cant have good without bad so you cant have heaven without hell.

It's brilliant. A very effective, low cost recruitment system. Maybe the US Armed Forces should start threatening hell for non-service...
