Let me put it this way myself

Why is it Wal Mart was considered a great place to work and now it is some new age sweat shop?

How much do you think people should make automatically?

How much do you think health insurance should cost?

You never answered the questions.

That isn't where the lead comes from. The lead itself is part of the plastic and keeps it from breaking when it bends. The lead leaches out of the plastic. While I am sure there are processes that use lead as a lubricant, that is not what you were talking about before. It is important to not confuse two things that have nothing to do with each other. Nor does this involve Wal-Mart in any way. Once again, there is lead in everything you eat, touch, and own. Those cords meet the safety standards of the country, those labels are for California. You cannot go by labels applied with California in mind. You even have warning labels on your parking lots in California, so you really have to ask "If everything has a safety label, what is actually dangerous?"

Also, have you ever tested your dirt in your yard for lead? You might be surprised to find that your yard is probably as bad as those cords are. How many mud pies did your kids make? Kids toys are only dangerous at 300ppm cause kids chew on them and swallow the paint. You aren't likely to ingest enough extension cord to hurt you.
You have been hoodwinked. The point is they could buy it from a US Company. Without any Lead.

You can't use one sentence about something to deny an entire reality. Democrats don't deny they are pro-welfare and pro-medicare. None of them disagree with it. I really don't see why Chesus liked that since what you actually said was Bush helped the poor. He must be a great guy, right? You obviously don't know the difference between saying something and it being tree. My charge isn't blown out of the water, and everyone knows it. My statement never said Republicans weren't stupid and that they didn't do the same thing, it meant it was mostly a democrat issue.

My was: The government, democrats in particular, support medicare and want to give free insurance to people.

Your retort: President Bush gave out food stamps.

My followup: What the fuck do food stamps have to do with medicare?
My followup was regarding the implementers of such programs. While true Dems support more liberal causes they cannot act alone. The thread is about layoffs. It is not about Medicare or about food stamps if you have to be so picky.

you forgot garden hoses, which for years had stickers saying "not for use with potable water or irrigation" before somebody realised that the amount of lead leaching into the water from garden hoses was so minute as to be almost "Homeopathic" in character, thus making it a health tonic rather than a dangerous toxin.

or the fact that after tetra-ethyl lead was removed from gasoline it was replaced by a series of even more dangerous substances until each in turn was replaced by another more dangerous substance, which was replaced with an even more dangerous substance... in a madcap cycle of musical toxicology. arsenic, antimony vanadium and cyanide were all added to gasoline at some point since the 70's as a replacement for lead, until finally they realized that there was no replacement for lead, and instead forced everybody to switch to steel valve seats and lower pressures (lol carbonmonoxide and oxides of nitrogen)

http://www.signalandpower.com/SPT-2-300V/SPT-2-16AWG-2C/
US companies have replaced lead in most industries, with more expensive, and less toxic substances (like bismuth) or ones which are less eager to leach out (antimony and vanadium) when part of a product. (note: antimony and vanadium are both much more toxic than lead but stay where you put them when combined in metals and plastics etc...)

wal-mart places tremendous cost pressures on their suppliers, and as a result, the safer choices are too costly for wal-mart shelves. ultimately the wal-mart SHOPPER must bear responsibility for choosing the cheaper toxic chinese option rather than the safer domestic production or even shit imported from a country who's economy isnt based on the enslavement of a peasant/serf class.

wal-mart offers their goods for sale, and individual customers must choose the options they prefer.

wal-mart's real guilt lies not in what they sell,m but their methods employed to eliminate competition and the tools they use to become parasites on their own suppliers, like contracts which demand yearly reductions in unit wholesale prices, and institution of exclusivity clauses and non-competition clauses against their own "partners" in the supply chain.

wal-mart can eat a sack of cocks, but wal-mart shoppers should shoulder their share of the blame as well.

First, did you even look at that wire? According to the rohs report it contains lead. Second, you are still giving the numbers and labels a value they don't have. Playing in the yard is worse for your kid than holding that wire.

http://www.epa.gov/region1/leadsafe/figure4.html

Here is an example of the EPA doing tests for how much lead is in your yard. Notice the 1000-2000 measurements being really common? Do you fear letting your kid play in the yard? Everything has to be considered using common sense. Going on a witchhunt against cords containing lead is about as stupid as when people went on a glass crushing rampage because they found out that there was uranium in vaseline glass.

While drinking a lead milkshake is probably bad, just like eating a piece of anything radioactive would be, you aren't going to have issues using those cords or drinking out of vaseline glass.

The OP was about layoffs and involved unions. The discussion turned to unions and Wal-Mart was brought up. The discussion then went to the social costs of companies without unions. We are on a branch of the topic from the opening post. I never said it was just democrats, but a majority of the push is from them. Your reply was simply a reply to something other than the discussion. The point was: Why did democrats push medicare through then get upset when people used it instead of using other available health care? Your answer was Bush gave out foodstamps. Do you see the major flaw in your statement?

A lot of words to say that the American people are responsible for the products they get and not Wal-Mart. Agreed.

I didn't forget about hoses:) I was holding it in reserve.:P

Ok, now you are just acting like your employer. Jumping over good sense for dollars.

Lead is a constant, and builds up within an environment, .030ppm here, 200ppm's, 150ppm's there, after awhile one can lose track of what the EPA thinks I can be exposed to.

It's just not necessary.

Why bring it in the marketplace? n/m it was a rhetorical question.

the american people are not always responsible for the products they buy.

when a manufacturer conceals the hazards of their product or it's contents then the manufacturer faces lawsuits (and sometimes lolsuits... McCoffee Pussy made milions on hers) and recalls, sometimes even the loss of their business. unless they are in china, then they are immune, so all they can get is a ban on that label, but labels can be restickered, and many chinese products are shipped with fake country of origin stickers to evade prohibitions on importation of their crap.

some products (like health insurance now...) are mandated by the government and we are stuck with them, like MTBE (class A carcinogen, deadly toxin, and "environmentally stable pollutant", which is not a good thing despite how it sounds) in gasoline in california, just to name one that chapped my hide and cost me a lot personally.

sorry about sniping yor garden hose holdout, but we'll always have PVC plumbing and galvanized water mains...

The lead is actually added to keep the wire from breaking and catching on fire. This makes it safer to play with when plugged in.:)
that lead is put in the insulation, and playing with hot leads is no fun if you dont strip the insulation first.

It never was considered a great place to work. Retail has been considered a job fit only for retards for the entire time that Wal-Mart has existed. Where did you get that at?
yes it was
workers got health care, retirement and employee stock programs
in the 70s and 80s the motto was you are not just an employee you are a co owner

In 1971, he introduced a profit-sharing plan that allowed employees to put a certain percentage of their wages towards the purchase of subsidized Wal-Mart stock. For employees who stuck around, this could mean quite a bit of money. According to a truck driver named Bob Clark, quoted in Walton’s autobiography: “[Walton] said, ‘If you’ll just stay with me for twenty years, I guarantee you’ll have $100,000 in profit sharing’ … Well, last time I checked, I had $707,000 in profit sharing, and I see no reason why it won’t go up again.”Equally important was Walton’s ability to sell employees on the notion that working at Wal-Mart meant limitless opportunity.

the human body can eliminate lead all by itself as long as exposure isnt continuous and extensive enough to result in lead in your bones.

dirt doesnt have a liver, and some urban areas have considerable buildup of lead from centuries of lead in industry, housepaint, toys, etc etc etc... this lead in playgrounds (ZOMG!) resulted in the incorrect assumption that lead was coming from the exhaust pipes of automobiles (hooray for yellow journalism) and the subsequent ban on leaded gasoline, and a panoply of problems cascading from that foolish decision.

gramps' statement is valid, if somewhat oversimplified.
