I feel that pretty much all the common illegal or scheduled drugs can relieve depressive symptoms. (Amphetamines, Opioids, MJ, Benzos, LSD, Psilocybin, and Cocaine) The problem is that to beat depression, you have to constantly work at it. It is not something that will be "cured" with a properly titrated dose of ANY substance. All you can do is WORK at making today better than yesterday and focus on the present in hopes of building a better future. That's exactly what anti-depressants were designed for. To reduce the symptoms long enough for YOU to build a better for life. They don't cure shit. They simply manage symptoms.
"Shell Shock" is a defense mechanism of PTSD. I had a history teacher that served in Viet Nam. If someone would drop a book on a desk loudly, he would drop to ground, sometimes calling out military commands. It's basically as if his sub-concious has trained itself to survive in incrediblely dangerous situations. This training has reached his core or the "Fight or Flight" area of the brain. That's really deep and imho can only be trained to cope in the new surroundings. His subconcious will not allow him to learn this reaction is nolonger needed because it has saved his life and that part of the brain only makes clear black or white decisions. There's no gray area.. His "Flight" reaction has adapted to the sounds of loud explosions, so that every time hears a loud boom he hits the deck. Since this action has worked in saving his life, he basically hard wired the response.
As hard has is to hear, at this time in our lives, there is not cure for either of these phenomenon. All we can do is seek help in order aid us while WE WORK through to build a better tomorrow. If you're abosolutely hell bent of the research of unconventional means, you're looking in the wrong place. DMT is where you want to focus your energy. There are or have been very recently been studies with scientific researchers exploring possible uses of DMT. Shit there's even a decent documentery on netflix, just search dmt and find the one with Joe rogan.
The fact that the OP is asking this question tell me he/she is in a denile or hasn't fully surrendered in therapy. Therapy won't work until you let your guard down. If it takes a few shots of whiskey so be it. They won't hold it against you. It's seen as a big step forward in the willingness to help yourself by all means necessary. If you go to therapy completely guarded you wont be in right position to perceive the information correctly and unbiased.
I heard a good quote from the movie Side Effects- "Depression is the inability to construct a future." It definitely hit home with my personal struggles.
Anyways, take it or leave it, I hope you find what your looking for.
