Two people are expected to face charges of operating a major drug-manufacturing operation after a raid that netted up to $3 million worth of marijuana.“I think this is going to be one of the largest, if not the largest criminal operation” the department has investigated, St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon said.
The 35-year-old man and 28-year-old woman were arrested late Friday after a raid near State and Metcalf roads in Fort Gratiot. Police found a greenhouse that contained 72 mature marijuana plants, most 12 to 15 feet tall, and 50 pounds of processed marijuana.
Investigators raided the 130-foot-by-30-foot greenhouse in the 5500 block of State Road, as well as a factory in the 500 block of Memphis Ridge Road in Riley Township where 71 more plants were seized.
The St. Clair County Drug Task Force and the city-county major crimes unit found a dozen more marijuana plants at a home in the 3000 block of Elk Street in Port Huron, and several pounds of processed marijuana at a search in the 2600 block of 18th Avenue in Port Huron.
“This is a criminal enterprise in every sense of the word,” Donnellon said.
Drug Task Force Lt. Kevin Manns said investigators believe the couple had been selling the marijuana throughout multiple counties.
He and Donnellon declined to comment on how the enterprise was discovered.
The man and woman have been released from custody pending warrants. T
he investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are possible, Donnellon said.
Along with the marijuana plants, investigators also seized three vehicles, trailers, three ATVs, a snowmobile, a motorcycle, a 33-foot boat and other property.
While the man has a medical marijuana user card and the woman has a card to be a caregiver, Donnellon said the amount of marijuana seized far exceeds any card holder’s legal limit.
Designated caregivers can acquire 2.5 ounces of usable marijuana and grow up to 12 plants for a qualifying patient, with a limit of five patients, according to the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
Donnellon said he couldn’t go into detail, but said he believes any documentation the suspects have is being abused.
“We believe he’s manipulating the system,” he said. “This is a criminal enterprise.”
Port Huron Police Capt. Jeff Baker said it is discouraging to know that much marijuana is being distributed throughout the area.
But by collaborating efforts between the agencies, sizable operations can be taken down.
“This is a very large seizure for St. Clair County,” he said

50 pounds of "processed" marijuana

Whats that mean, cured and dryed?

this isn't processed foods with preservatives lol
I would not doubt if it was from 50lbs of dead leaf laying around. From my interpretation of
the article I see people staying within their plant limits at least.

Murf, I usually tend to agree with you but keep in mind: cops don't make the laws, politicians do and when they are in bed with corporations with an army of lobbyist's that leaves you and I in the poor house and or in jail. Not the cop's fault (There are good ones and bad ones) He's just doing what he's told.

Sounds like they chose their target wisely. I don't wanna see anyone go down cause of this plant we love but when you got a 35 foot bullseye boat chances are they are gonna take aim. What'd they raid 4 addresses? I know I don't even have a single address too call my own yet lol.

Cops arnt stupid for the most part. They have had to cut the fat just as much as us. A raid of this size on a target that doesn't have assets to seize will cause the department many many issues.

Sounds to me they had an inside guy too. They knew an awful lot. Maybe electronic Intel?

They do chose to enforce them though.

Just from an economic standpoint the average MI resident should be outraged by these kind of busts.
No matter what, LEO will never be able to stop the demand or need of MJ. If MI can produce enough
MJ to meet it's own needs, while simultaneously spending zero money on imprisoning or prosecuting
it's own citizens, it's conservatively a several billion dollar a year impact.

I have some cop math of my own I would LOVE for them to read.

Population 9.883 million in which 7% use MJ = 691,810 people
20$ per week spent by 692k people = 13,836,200 per week x 52 weeks = 719,482,400 per year
Then they should also consider a good % of this money gets respent or invested in MI instead
of leaving the state or country.

Costs on LEO, probation officers, court time and prison expenses related to MJ = ? 5million to 20 million?

The average person who has never used plant should at least know enough that the current path is not
just stupid but unethical. ( Rant over)

Most likely flying over the green house, then investigating them afterwards would be my guess. They said
in the article other people may be arrested too. There is a good chance all the plants were legal, just the
50lbs was not.

You speak the truth. Once logic becomes the way we operate it will prolly go down like you say slum. Even more then 7% will be smokers too if it goes legal.

If it goes legal there's still gonna be major regulations that will keep couples like this from being able to do what they did. Get ahead. Look at all the new med states setting up 100,000k for a license. That's nuts. But it keeps the rich club exclusive.

That stupid drake song comes to mind. No new friends. MIT Romney don't want no new friends. George bush don't want no new friends. The rich peope don't want someone who might believe differently then them gaining the power they have.

Alot of people have shown in the past that herb is a good way to get some power. Even then you will prolly end up in a box for even thinking your as specil as the all mighty. Emery for example.

And sorry about the last post. That's one of my pet peaves. (Posting depressing shit without a silver lining)

The silver lining for us in this situation is they finally crack down on harder drugs. Making these more valuable in the process enticing even more nimrods to give it a go. Which in turn will keep LEO even busier. Which will hopefully lead to a happy smoke filled state of Michigan. We can only hope right!

The reality of MJ medicinal "law" falls somewhere between "will not impede access" (sec4) and "uninterrupted supply" (sec8) IMO. Sadly the government, court and LEO agendas fail to both acknowledge nor respect these facts of the "law" and simply act as if Federal Class I Narcotic categorization of such is not absurd. The "War on Drugs" profitability and abuse simply can no longer be denied or tolerated.

From my prospective, as both an MJ patient and caregiver, I cannot help but read this article and as an assault and robbery by an organized crime syndicate upon a local family ...

There's no way all the plants were legalr. That seized 72 at one spot 71 at another and a handful at a Third spot. She had her caregivers card but even if she was maxed out only 72 would be legal. It sounds like they were trying to take advantage of the greyness of it all.

Ya it's pretty retarded. Gotta harvest staggered.

Remember we decide when its ready to use. My stuff takes forever to dry sometimes. I feel like I'm never gonna be able to pull that label "not ready until ...." And smoke it all up.
