What do you do part time that you make 30k a year?
and if you make 30k a year why dont you have healthcare insurance?

negative nitro..prior to the ACA, all insurance companies utilized pre-existing condition clauses..you are in the oregon state pool which HAD to accept you..premiums commensurate to high risk pooling as well.

All I know is that everyone could get Ins through the oregon health plan with pre existing conditions like me and it has been that way for a very long time..You call it a pool I call Ins, because that is what it is..Even buck or some other sick person can get it..

My company is a small business we don't have an benefit options, so no healthcare. I work as a contracted large format printer and CNC repair specialist. My hourly is charged out at $150 to $200 an hour to rebuild these machines on site (overtime and unexpected repairs past initial issues can take my overtime way above that). This is standard as Roland outsources their techs at $150 an hr, above that is when travel is needed out of state. I am sure I could figure it out and budget it in and I will be fine but the sour taste still remains that if I don't want to sign up I MUST pay a "penalty", one of the ways I have made it so well through school without debt is cutting things I don't use or really need, like healthcare, its my body if it breaks kind of my fault and responsibility. Still though when we start scrutinizing my details aren't we getting a bit far from the actual subject at hand. If we really want to argue we can find holes in anything and a way to make it work but the fact remains why should I be forced to make it work. Healthcare should be an option, not demanded. Rather pointless to argue if I have the money or not LOL when my entire point is that I shouldn't have to give that money up because I opt out....has nothing to do with part time, full time, 30k, 90k. I could care less whether someone on the internet believes me LOL my point remains with or without me as I can introduce you to several thousand college students who stood up to say this is bullshit at my campus. ....its obviously affecting more than just me.

there is a high deductible, low cost catastrophe policy if you are 30<..i think its less than 100$, but don't know for certain since i haven't seen ACA pricing yet.

EDIT: what it all comes down to is:

#1. being accountable should you fall terminally ill and rack up money on the system that you can never pay back..

Subsidies to pay for your coverage does not mean it pays for your health care. I think that's where the disconnect is for the supporters of O'care. The "better" O'care exchange plans have a mean deductible of around 6400 a year while the cheap plan is over 10k. This means you expect all of those people who abuse the ER to suddenly pay for their ER visit. I'm not sure why people have believed this. Maybe you can shed some light on this thought process? How are people who were too poor to afford insurance going to afford 10k for repeated ER visits? I admit for catastrophic incidents, having to only pay 10k is pretty sweet, but your sides claim was this bill will reduce costs because people will no longer use the ER as a clinic. Magic wands?

I shouldnt have to pay increased health insurance premiums when the electrician told you the power was locked out and it wasnt and you end up at the ER

My point is if you are a responsible person you will seek to be covered

Was your sides argument for the bill was that it would curtail costs by those ER "clinic" visits be covered or not? You guys weren't arguing for catastrophic emergencies, you were talking about the abuse of using ERs as a clinic and this bill would put an end to that. How?

This part I really don't know because I'm fortunate enough to not need the exchanges so I'll ask, what's the deductible for doctor's visits? Are they free? If so I can see this working, but if you still have to meet a deductible, that means the ER is still the economic choice.
