If by use you mean that I called them and added the rider I did it 3 times. Never actually used it. They sell insurance to be used in the USA not in a foreign country so I really appreciated that they would cover costs as long as they knew about it. I assume there might be regions of the world that they would not insure you.

While I was with IBM I contacted the provider, it was a no-go. When I was with Thomson Reuters it was also a no-go. My BCBS of NY does cover some things, but not much, and there is a deductible of $500. The bill in Brazil when I cut my leg was less than $700 reais, which is, at the time was less than $300US. Ugh! socialist healthcare for ya!
Are you complaining because you had a $500 deductible or that you have insurance coverage?

Do you really want to go down this road with me WW? I wasn't actually complaining. I was merely pointing out the flaws in your argument with empirical evidence. Then I went on further to state that in a country with "social" healthcare, even a foreigners [me] costs were actually quite reasonable.
What hole are you trying to dig with your sort of questioning?
doesn't it bother you to have to report your whereabouts to a bureaucratic entity and ask permission?..be told you can't go somewhere or you won't be covered?..seriously?

Welcome to the real world... I can tell you've never left the continental US for if you had and had insurance you'd realise there are many countries where your insurance will be void so you will not be covered for the duration of your stay. That also applies to certain situations in certain countries... ie terrorist attacks in countries where there had been previous advisories not to travel...
wrong..i've been to maui (non-continental us)..jamaica..canada..bahamas..i don't have any business even being in the "flagged" countries..

Don't have a passport. Don't want one. I've been told I'm going to need one for my business. I hate the thought of having to get one.doesn't have one single stamp in it..how many stamps does yours have?
I would like to visit my Aunt in London, Ont., though. I used to visit her all the time, only needed a birth cert and pic id.
Been more places than you that's for sure.

Well, I'd say you are a world traveler. I used to travel all the time. Then 9/11 happened and now I white knuckle every flight. If it is within 1,200 miles I try to drive instead of fly.
Edit: I absolutely love Costa Rica would move there if my husband's health wasn't so sketchy.
