Why aren't fabric bags cone shaped.

Exactly, it takes a long long time to do proper testing that can survive peer review. But that's not necessary to see that you would not be able to grow anything of any substance in a one litre pot of substrate that did not have roots coming out and going into a reservoir. But the mini pyramids...

Why aren't fabric bags cone shaped.

I have a better idea, instead of doing what you want me to do, why don't I do what I want me to do regarding testing. And that is what I will be doing with the mini pyramids because they allow me to grow very many more plants. Right now I'm at the stage of seeing how beans that I am familiar...

Why aren't fabric bags cone shaped.

When I cut my first mini pyramid open that was the Purple Haze above, I was very curious to see the root structure, I thought I'd see roots going all through it, but instead I was surprised to see that most of the roots were so fine that I could not see them, I could only see a few of the...

Of course not, 'optimal' is a very broad term, it could apply to substrate, and the material they use in these plug is optimal, but that doesn't mean that the whole set up is optimal. Every good medium has it's pro and cons. But you are right I am obsessed with these pyramids because I've always...

@crimsonecho do please start a bottleneck fabric pot grow show thread tho. i want to see the results. use clones, equal amount of medium in differently shaped pots and i’ll watch I would if I wanted to grow in soil, I'm currently testing what I'm interested in. Otherwise I would get an...

Why aren't fabric bags cone shaped.

Well it certainly got me thinking, when I saw it, and while I don't use soil, I am interested to see if I can replace this shallow water culture 20Litre double tub with external reservoir, with this little thing. I'll find out in 8 weeks. So while I don't grow in soil I started to think about...

Why aren't fabric bags cone shaped.

My point is that if it is possible to grow a plant in a one litre pot hand watered like a normal pot, that looks like it was grown in at least a 10litre pot, then surely that has got to make one wonder. "if that is possible, then perhaps I might need to rethink what I think I know". The above...

what about this, does this look "unhappy" too?

Why aren't fabric bags cone shaped.

@crimson, its a fair point to say that it doesn't hold its shape well, but that's just one of the things that a manufacturer redesigning their grow bags would have to address. We start with a concept that is sound, i.e. more space where it's actually used, and then we solve the objections...

Why aren't fabric bags cone shaped.

@crimsonecho your first two paragraphs are obvious nonsense tailored to arrive at the conclusion you want. If watering the pot through the top doesn't diffuse throughout the pot, then ones medium is not great. You say the word "inefficient" but do you know what real efficiency actually looks...

Over water? Heat? Soil? Help please..

Not sure why you are worried about roots coming out of a plug, that is what you want, here is a small plug in a slightly bigger cube that I grow for a week till roots are coming out all four sides then bury it. You're better off doing this than using those cups to start.

You obviously don't know what you're doing, so instead of repeating this horror show of a grow, do yourself a favour and practice growing some beans in an Eazyplug Mini Pyramid so at least you won't have a disaster. You can bury the pyramid in soil later. Link in my sig (bonded substrate)

Why aren't fabric bags cone shaped.

@FirstCavApache64, why do you say that when you already know that the bulk of the roots are towards the bottom of the bag. Roots don't want to grow against gravity they know which way is down. Agreed there's no set amount of soil because that depends on the plant and the substrate. When you say...

Wait, did I somehow get married to all you people, feels like it with all the completely manufactured straw man objections? Criticise that concept of putting more soil where the plant needs it and less where it doesn't. The concept is sound so if you can't criticise the concept then it's a...

Why aren't fabric bags cone shaped.

@FirstCavApache64 A square pyramid would better anyway. @crimsonecho in fact if you had actually put some thought into it you would realise that it would be made to hold the same volume as it's equivalent fabric pot it's just that the soil that it missing from the top where it is not needed is...

Why aren't fabric bags cone shaped.

I'm guessing because no one thought of it yet. Plastic pots have always been narrower towards the bottom in order to be able to remove a root bound plant for transplanting, larger tubs are more cylindrical rather than conical, which makes sense because it puts more space for the roots at the...

    LST Tool

Doing right angle bends invariably means to snap the stem a bit or mush it around or damage it in some tangible way. I was wincing bending the Jack47XL, because it was nowhere near as compliant as the Amnesia, and normally I'd let it get a bit larger. I love the way clip resists the plant...

    LST Tool

I can't believe of all the hundreds of grows I've seen I do not recall seeing this handy little tool, I wish I knew about this a few years ago for mere pennies it saves snapped branches and wilful plants. Find them on eBay, the green ones are too tight to be usable, but the white ones are very...
