The plant needs more than water. Bottled water is great but could get expensive. The plant is yellow from too much water or no nutrients. If your letting the soil dry between waterings then it's nutes your lacking.

It's possible. Not advised. Shouldn't hurt as long as the roots don't tangle when they come in.
