    Curing newbie question

"hey @bigsteve have you ever had a reduction in smell from re-hydration? just curious" I had some bud a while ago that smelled like beaver farts when cured. I laid it out to get crispy, took 48 hours. Then I re-hydrated using an orange slice instead of water. 24 hours in the jar and I had...

    12 inch sativa plant yield?

Drooping likely from over or under-watering. I would guesstimate a 12-incher to cure around 12-15 grams. With low wattage you want to get them as close to the light as possible. Good luck, BigSteve.

    curing curosity

Drying/curing is a two-part process: drying removes moisture and curing is making sure all the product has uniform dryness. If we didn't cure we would have crispy small nugs and undried big buds. I spread my newly harvested bud on paper towels that lay on a new 16 x 25 x 1 inch furnace filter...

    bubble hash help

Trim for hash should have been thoroughly dried out before going into the freezer. Then seal the jar air-tight then put into the freezer. Good luck, BigSteve.

    whats wrong with these seedlings

Should have transplanted into a small pot first. When seedlings first go into dirt they spend most of their energy laying down a root system that will support the plant. By going straight into a big pot you guaranteed yourself a couple of extra weeks of waiting as the plant grows out roots to...

    Strain recommendations with northern lights

World of Seeds (via Attitude) has a Northern Lights x Big Bud strain that I highly (!) recommend. The NL x BB strain is big, fast and easy to grow. Bonus as they are also easy to clone. NL x BB was my "strain of the year" for 2013 and I probably grew close to 60 of them via cloning. Good luck...

    Help With Seedling Pics Included

The first leaves will look whitish like that for the initial 24-48 hours so you are OK. Reason is that the seedling hasn't had a chance to absorb enough light to start the photosynthesis process. You will be green in a day or 2. Good luck, BigSteve.

    12/12 question

Plants that go from veg lighting to 12/12 to flower will still be in veg mode for up to a week at 12/12. With my indica strains I can usually take clones from a female that has been at 12/12 for less than 7 days. Those clones are rooting at 8-11 days just as if the mom was still at 18/6 or 20/4...

    OG Tales From the 'Hood

"That's my home town, but I was only one year old then." We sure had a common name back then. I was Medium Steve as there was 2 other Steves in the house. BigSteve

    OG Tales From the 'Hood

It was 1969 and I had just returned to Grand Rapids (Mich.) from getting my ass kicked in the Aug. 1969 SDS riot in Chicago. I lived with a houseful of street hippies on the ghetto-ey south-east side of GR. A few days after getting bailed out of Cook County jail and making my way home the group...

    will she recover?

Pinching one leaf shouldn't cause problems for the rest of the plant. All you can do is make sure the plant doesn't fall again. I use bamboo skewers and pipecleaners to make little braces for my younger gals. If weak stems continue to be a problem cut the water intake down and run a small fan...

    Where to start???

Here's what I would do in your situation: Big jobs or problems get smaller when you break them down. So jot down the differing phases of a grow. First point should be "set up". List the supplies you have and decide (or ask us) if your gear is appropriate for the size of your grow. For instance...

    Different wattages and distance?

The lumens a plant receives is a factor of distance from the light, regardless of wattage. For instance, a plant sitting 2 feet from the light gets one quarter the lumens if moved to 4 feet from the light. The closer to the light you get (without burning) the better. I use the hand test to judge...

plz help my plants keep falling over

A good way to avoid toothpick stems is to put a fan in the room. Check to be sure you have just enough breeze going over them to see the plants react. In the mean time make some braces for your gals. I use bamboo skewers with pipecleaners. Note -- introducing a fan in the room means they will...

do these look cloudey to anyone

Hint - tris, I think because they start out clear, ted to look the same color as the background. I found I could get the most accurate look at tri coloration by putting a sugar leaf on a black background. Good luck, BigSteve.

First grow northern lights x big bud

Great choice of strain! I have perpetual grow where I harvest 2 plants a week. 80% of my finishing plants started life as clones. The NL x BB strain was my favorite type for 2014 because it is fast to grow and finish an clones easily. Good luck, BigSteve.

    Spider Mites...What can I do?

I've only had bug problems in my veg room. Haven't needed the dust in the flowering room, but I'm sure it would be OK there too. BigSteve.

    Cheapest HID lighting sources

I just replaced my 400W set-up in my veg room. Went to eBay.com and bought a digital MH/HPS ballast with cool tube, hanger, timer and both bulbs for about $140. Everything was included. BigSteve.

    Spider Mites...What can I do?

I use Sevin dust, an insecticide, when insects show up. The dust comes in a shaker-type can that allows easy distribution over your crops. The dust is so benign that my vets at UCLA medical center approved it's use with mice and rats. Harmless to pets, the environment and everything else...

    OMG NOOOOOOOOO!!!

Get a fan on them. I have a 20" box fan in the doorway to suck in cool air. Keep a spray bottle handy and mist the fan leaves. Put a drop of Dawn dishwater soap into each gallon of water. Helps make the water thinner so it spreads better. Good luck, BigSteve.
