Normally that would appear to be a lack of Nitrogen issue? My outside plants are about 2 weeks into flower and the lower and bigger leaves are dying off. Maybe just a plant age issue? The rest of the plant looks fine.

Defoliation during flower is fine. It does provide more light to help with the formation of more buds. Just be careful and don't over do it.
